WEARING, JR. WINS BATTLE OF WEARINGS AT DHS

                                                    September 3, 1999

STRONGSTOWN, PA- Bob Wearing, Jr. of Renfrew, PA picked up his first Dog Hollow Speedway Late Model feature of the season Friday night, by holding off his dad, Bob, Sr.

Repeat winners included: Shawn "Sheets" McGarvey of Coalport in the super stocks, Jerry Lower of Williamsburg in the street stocks, Jim Kirsch of Ebensburg in the pure stocks, and John Mollick in the DWARFS.

Bob Wearing, Sr. and Glenn Ray led the field of late models down for the start, with Wearing taking the lead. He led for two laps, then Ray used an inside turn one move to take the lead on lap three. He held the top spot until lap seven, when Bob Wearing, Jr. used a power move to the outside, and took the lead. Wearing, Jr opened up a sizable lead, and sat through a few cautions. With just six laps to go, Wearing, Sr. moved into second, and set his sights on his son, but in the closing laps, the younger Wearing simply had too much power, and took his first win of the season. The top five were: Wearing, Jr., Wearing, Sr., Mike Blose, Tom Eriksen, and Glenn Ray. Bud McClelland, Rick Davis, Glenn Ray, and Bob Wearing, Sr. won the heat races, Ben Miley won the B-Main.

The super stock feature was led to the line by Denny Weisgarber and Yvette Hahn, with Weisgarber shooting into the lead. Entering turn three on the first lap, Shawn McGarvey, Hahn, and Louie Jacoby were running three win, when they made contact, sending Jacoby into the infield, and Hahn to the pits for the night. On the complete restart, Weisgarber again had the lead, and held it for two laps, before McGarvey used an inside turn four move to get by for the lead. Once out front McGarvey had a persistant Jacoby on his tail. As the race began to wind down, Todd Mathews had worked his way to third, and was looking for Jacoby, but ran out of time as the checkered flag fell. The top five were: McGarvey, Jacoby, Mathews, Mike Shoemaker, and Al Zuccolotto. Heat race victories went to Louie Jacoby, Shawn McGarvey, and Yvette Hahn.

J.R. Rowe and Bill Lyons led the street stocks to the green with Rowe taking the lead. He held the lead until lap four, when he dropped out with a smoking motor. Tony Fama then assumed the lead, and held off Lyons until lap nine. Lyons was then the race leader, and in the closing stages of the event, Jerry Lower had worked his way to the front, and held on for his 4th straight win, and his 8th of the season. Rich Britton, Charlie Records, Lyons, and Jim Boyer completed the top five. Tony Fama, Trent Ogden, and Bill Lyons won the heats.

Johnathan Hayman and Bill Sigafoes led the pure stocks to the green flag, and it was Hayman who took the lead. He led the race for seven laps, before Jim Kirsch worked him way to the lead. Kirsch used and inside backstretch pass for the top spot. While Kirsch was pulling away, Hayman and Steve Diehl were putting on a torrid fight for the runner up spot. Kirsch went on to get his fourth win of the season, as Diehl and Hayman crashed over the finish line. Both drivers were OK, but penilized for their behavior. The top five were: Kirsch, Henry Wilfong, Sigafoes, Brian Parsley, and Bud Kern. Heat race wins belong to Henry Wilfong and Brian Parsley.

In the DWARF Car feature, John Mollick led the feature from flag to flag, to get his first win of the season, over Eric Stoltz, Jeff Barclay, and Frank Dunkle.
