KREITZ DOMINATES TUSCARORA 50~ SHUEY WINS LATE MODEL CHAMPIONSHIP, SHEPARD TAKES LABOR DAY MAKEUP

Donnie Kreitz dominated the Tuscarora 50 All Star sprint event Saturday night September 11 at the Port Royal Speedway. Kreitz started on the outside of the front row and proceeded to completely destroy a stellar field of sprints as he won his second Tuscarora 50 and collected over $10000 for his efforts. The race was marred by a red flag on the third lap when Todd Gracey got upside down entering turn three. The rest of the first half of the race went nonstop. Despite a break for fuel and adjustments no one could challenge the front running Kreitz. The second half of  the race was stopped for Joey Saldana, who spun his car after developing a fuel leak and suffering dizziness due to fumes. Kreitz’s victory came ever after developing an audible miss in the engine, Fred Rahmer came on after the halfway point to get the runnerup spot, while for the second straight night Lance Dewease came home third. Paul McMahan was the top All Star regular as crossed the line fourth. Friday night’s winner Dave Ely took the fifth spot. Jimmy Carr, Rodney Duncan, Shawn Keen, Greg Hodnett, and Lenny Thompson rounded out the top ten. Saldana had fast tirne at 16.353, Keen, Johnny Mackison, Hodnett, and Jeff Shepard won the heats, while Paul McMahan won the United Expressline B-Main. 43 sprints were on hand for the event.

The 20 lap Late model championship race was won by 1999 track champion. Chris Shuey. At the drop of the green, Mike Bingaman took the point. Shuey struggled early in the event before changing his line from the low groove to the high line. He finally caught the front running Bingaman and was able to make they winning pass on the sixteenth circuit. Shuey went on to record his fourth win of the year Bingaman held on for second, his best allowing this season, and Tim Gray also had a great race to get the third spot. Scotty Haus rode home fourth, followed by Mike Lupfer in fifth. Jeff Rine. Eric Hons, Mike Hess, Tim Wilson, and Scott Lupfer completed the top ten.

Jeff Shepard won the makeup 25 lap Labor Day Classic sprint car event. Mike Wagner led the first two laps before giving way to Fred Rahmer on a lap restart. Rahmer was pressured by Donnie Kreitz while Shepard made his way to the front from deeper in the field. The three frontrunners staged a tremendous battle. Shepard took second away from Kreitz on lap 14 and moved in for the kill. He got by Rahmer on the 18th circuit and went onto his first Port Royal triumph of the season. Kreitz was able to pass Rahmer to pickup the second spot, while Rahmer had to be content with third. Mike Wagner brought his mount home fourth Shaffer finished fifth.Jimmy Carr, Lance Dewease, Todd Kauffman, and Curt Michael rounded out the top ten. Wagner,Kreitz won the original heats, while Rod Stroup took the consey.

ELY SCORES CAREER FIRST, EASH WINS K.A.R.S.. DORMAN TAKES PRO STOCKS

Young Dave Ely scored his first career 410 sprint win in the 25 lap “Night Before the Tuscarora 50” All Star race Friday night September 1O at Port Royal Speedway Ely recorded sixth fastest time and after getting his time back by winning the United Expressline B-main started on the pole. Ely quickly showed that he was the main to beat as he opened up a sizable advantage. The remainder of  the stellar field chased the Sinking Springs driver but he was not to be denied as he came away with the victory, Former Port regular and current All Star point Ieader Kenny Jacobs was able to put pressure on Ely, but never found a way to get by and had to settle for the runnerup spot. Port Royal’s leading feature winner Lance Dewease came home in third while All Star regular Joey Saldana finished fourth and Jeff Shepard garnered fifth. Paul McMahan, Donnie Kreitz, Greg Hodnett, Fred Rahmer, and Todd Shaffer rounded out the top ten. Lance Dewease set fast time at 16.271. Heats were won by Rodney Duncan. Shawn Keen, Fred Rahmer, and Jeff Shepard, while Ely won the B- Main. Paul McMahan won the Commercial Truck and Trailer Dash event. 44 Sprints took part in the night’s activities.

Former Port Royal sprint regular Darren Eash, won the 20 lap K.A.R.S. feature which was rained out from Monday September 6. Stiles Mader Started On the pole but the race was red flagged after the first lap for a hard crash involving Mike Enders and Bob Beidleman. After the restart, Mader was able to pull away while the remainder of the field negotiated for position. A yellow closed up the ranks on lap 11 and on the restart Eash moved from third to first using the outside line and immediately showed his dominance. Eash easily paced the rest of the rest of the race to secure the win. Kevin Drury came home second, while Mader was able to hold onto third. One time winner Mark Richard took fourth, and Rusty Pressley got fifth. Sixth through tenth went to Scott Ausherman. Mike Lehman, Dale Hammaker , Greg Leiby, and Tim Hershey. Eash, Ausherman, Ray Kozimor, and Mike Enders won the original heats, and Scott Kershner took the consey. 43 K.A.R.S. 358 sprints tried to qualify for the event,

Scott Dorman ended a season long dry spell by Winning the 15 lap Stong’s Auto Parts  Engines pro stock championship race, Starting on the pole due to the luck of the draw, Dorman was able to hold off several challenges from different drivers to secure his first win of the year. Former track champ Jim Palm ran second and  race. and Tom Krape came across the line third-Tom Clark returned from spin to get fourth, and track champ Tim Krape finished fifth. Palm and Kyle Bachman took the heats. 23 pro stocks were trackside.

~The weekend’s activities close out the racing schedule for Port Royal in 1999. The Speedway's banquet will be held on November 13. Port Royal wants to thank all sponsors, teams, and supporters who helped make this a banner seasonfor the Juniata County oval. See you next year at the Port!
