MOYER OUTRUNS FRANCIS AND LEAKING TIRE FOR FOURTH HAT WIN

PADUCAH, KY - Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR outran Steve Francis of
Ashland, KY and a leaking right-rear tire to win the $10,000 top prize
Thursday night in the 75-lap United Dirt Track Racing Association
Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series main event at Paducah International Raceway.

Moyer took the lead from Francis on the third lap and never looked back.
But the first thing Moyer looked back at was the right-rear tire of his
Petroff Towing GRT/Grand Prix in the winner's circle.

"We were lucky," Moyer said as he watch the remaining pounds of air escape
from the tire.  "I knew we had a bad handling problem the last ten laps of
the race, but I wasn't sure what it was.  The last couple of races I've had
this problem and had to drop out, but tonight we made it to the end."

Before Moyer's tire problem, he enjoyed a half-straightaway lead over
Francis.  But when the tire started going down, Francis could not close in
because he was having tire problems of his own on his Action Auto Mart
Rocket/Monte Carlo.

"I saw that Billy was having some kind of handling problem because he was
taking a different line into the corners," Francis said.  "But by then, our
right-rear tire had glazed over, and we couldn't catch him.

Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN finished third in the Christenberry Trucking
and Farms GRT/Monte Carlo, and fourth when to Terry English of Benton, KY in
the AAA Fence Rayburn/Monte Carlo.

Bill Frye of Greenbrier, AR had to take a provisional to make the race, and
started his UniFirst Warrior/Grand Prix from the 23rd starting spot.  Frye
blasted through the field to finish fifth.

Sixth through tenth spots respectively went to Rick Aukland of Fargo, ND in
the 10-10-220 Mastersbilt/Grand Prix, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN in
the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Mustang, Hav-A-Tampa point leader Dale
McDowell of Rossville, GA in the Dover Cylinder Heads GRT/Monte Carlo, Rick
Eckert of York, PA in the Raye Vest Rocket/Grand Prix, and Skip Arp of
Georgetown, TN in the Curtis Equipment GRT/Monte Carlo.

When the green flag dropped to start the race, Moyer took the lead from the
pole position, but the caution was brought out for spin by Robbie Starnes of
Starkeville, MS in turn two.  On the restart, Francis took the lead from the
outside front row starting spot followed by Moyer, Shannon Babb of Decatur,
IL, Aukland, and Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR.

By the third lap, Moyer caught Francis and passed him for the lead with an
outside move coming off the fourth turn.  Gary Keeling of Paducah, KY
brought out the second caution flag of the race on lap 5 when he spun coming
off the fourth turn.  After the restart, Frye worked his way into the top
ten by lap 10.

By lap 25, Moyer still led Francis, Babb, and Aukland, while Smith had moved
up into the top five.  Lap 30 saw Babb step up the pace and race
side-by-side with Francis for second, but that battle came to an end on lap
32 when Babb stopped on the backstretch with a mechanical failure to bring
out the caution flag.

After the final restart of the race, Moyer had opened up a half-straightaway
lead over Francis by lap 40.  Ten laps later, Francis was able to close in
on Moyer while the leader worked lapped traffic, but Moyer began to pull
away by lap 60.

McDowell's eighth-place finish combined with Wallace's 11th place finish now
gives McDowell a 22-point lead over Wallace heading into the Saturday night
100-lap $15,000-to-win main event at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert
City, KY.

Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI was the fast qualifier among the 47 entrants,
turning a lap around the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval in 16. 479 seconds.

Schlieper's car suffered mechanical problems during both the heat and
consolation race, so he brought out a backup car for the main event.  While
gridding the car for the start of the feature race, a broken water pump
ended his evening before it even started.

Borla Muffler 12-lap Heat Races were won by Moyer, Francis, Babb, and
Wallace.  Kevin Claycomb of Vinncenes, IN won the 12-lap Pace American
Trailers First Consolation Race, and Eddie Pace of Clarksville, TN won the
12-lap Polaris ATVs Second Consolation Race.
