WALLACE STOPS BLOOMQUIST IN ROUTE 66 FINALE

July 4, 1999

JOLIET, IL - Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR in the Monday Trucking
GRT/Monte Carlo stopped the Route 66 Raceway winning streak of Scott
Bloomquist Sunday night by winning the United Dirt Track Racing Association
Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series 75-lap main event on the ½-mile clay oval in
front of the Speedvision Television Network cameras.

Wallace charged from his third starting spot to take the lead in turn three
from pole sitter Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN, and then he never looked
back until late in the race when Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI mounted a
late-race charge for the point.

Wallace was able to use lapped traffic to establish a cushion between
himself and Schlieper during the final laps of the race to post his second
Hav-A-Tampa win of the season and the $10,000 top prize.

"We were fast last night running the bottom groove, and we pretty much ran
the same set up tonight," Wallace said.  "Last night the lapped traffic
slowed us down at the end, and I guess the same thing happened to Schlieper
tonight."

Sunday night's victory moves the Hav-A-Tampa Masters winner to within 29
points of the Hav-A-Tampa point leader Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA in the
battle for the 1999 HAT Championship.

Schlieper moved his Pro Power Racing Engines Rayburn/Monte Carlo into the
second spot on lap eight.  The 1998 Hav-A-Tampa Rookie of the Year closed on
Wallace during the last ten laps of the race, but lapped traffic held him
back on the final two laps, and Schlieper had to settle for second.

"We were close, but no Hav-A-Tampa Cigar tonight," Schlieper said.  "We were
really closing in on Wendell at the end, but with the bottom groove as
narrow as it was, there wasn't much room to get by lapped traffic, which
enabled Wendell to get away."

Bloomquist finished third in the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Mustang after
posting HAT victories on Friday and Saturday night at Route 66 Raceway.  The
defending and three-time HAT Champion from Mooresburg, TN quickly found out
that the outside groove he previously rode to victory at the track was not
there for the HAT Midwest Tour finale.

After starting on the outside of the front row, Bloomquist quickly dropped
back to fourth spot before he could change his line to bottom groove.  After
Kris Patterson of St. Johns, MI stalled in turn four on lap 22, Bloomquist
shot by Smith for third on the restart.

McDowell also moved by Smith for fourth one lap later, and then began to
close on Bloomquist.  McDowell could not get close enough to Bloomquist to
challenge for the position, and had to settle for fourth in the Dover
Cylinder Heads GRT/Monte Carlo.  Smith took the fifth spot in his
Christenberry Trucking and Farms GRT/Monte Carlo.

Sixth through tenth spots respectively went to Steve Francis of Ashland, KY,
Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN, Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA, Bart Hartman
of Zanesville, OH, and Rick Aukland of Fargo, ND.  Aukland was the only
driver in the 24-car main event field to try the high groove of the track.

There were two other caution flags in the race.  On lap 46, Bill Frye of
Greenbrier, AR and Clayton Christenberry of Knoxville, TN tangled in turn
three, and on lap 56, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC cut down a left-rear tire in
turn four.

Schlieper and Bloomquist tied for fast time honors among the 34 entries,
each turning in a lap of 19.79 seconds.  Smith, Bloomquist, and Wallace won
the three 10-lap Borla Muffler Heat Races.  Tony Izzo of Bridgeview, IL won
the Pace American Trailers 10-lap Consolation Race, and the 10-lap Polaris
ATVs Consolation Race was won by Christenberry.

The HAT series will travel to Florence Speedway in Union, KY on July 9-10
for the $15,000-to-win Ironman 100, and then on to Tri-State Speedway in
Haubstadt, IN on July 11 for a 75-lap, $10,000-to-win show.
