TALL COOL ONE TAKES NORTH-SOUTH 100

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

UNION, KY - Bob Pierce of Oakwood, IL drove the Murphy Trucking
Rayburn/Monte Carlo to the biggest victory of his career Saturday night in
winning the 17th Annual North-South 100 for the United Dirt Track Racing
Association Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series at Florence Speedway.

The "Tall Cool One" took the lead from Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR on lap 41, and then checked out on the field.  The race's only caution flag was unfurled on lap 63 when Marshall Green of Dalton, GA stalled in turn four.At that point in the race, Pierce held over a five-second lead on Wallace.

Pierce was able to pull away once again on the run to the checkered flag,
and claim the $15,000 top prize.

"This is the biggest win of my career," Pierce said in the winners circle.
"This is really special.  I've been coming here to the North-South 100 for
many years trying to win this thing, and I met my wife Angie here.  I've got
to thank C.J. Rayburn for letting me do some things on his car this he doesn't 't normally do on his other race cars."

While Pierce pulled away, there were some exciting battles for position
behind him for several positions in front of a full house and the
Speedvision cameras.

Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH blasted his way through the field from the 21st starting spot to finish second in his Mastersbilt/Grand Prix.  Wallace
finished third in the Monday Trucking GRT/Monte Carlo, and opened up a 46
point lead in the Hav-A-Tampa Championship battle over Dale McDowell of
Rossville, GA, who finished tenth in the Dover Cylinder Heads GRT/Monte
Carlo.

Steve Francis of Ashland, KY took the fourth spot in the Action Auto Mart
Rocket/Monte Carlo, and the defending and three-time HAT Champion Scott
Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN rounded out the top five in the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Mustang.

Sixth through ninth spots respectively went to Mike Balzano of Parkersburg,
WV, Rick Eckert of York, PA, Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN, and Darrell
Lanigan of Union, KY.

Bloomquist took the lead from the outside front row starting spot at the
drop of the green flag, followed closely by Wallace and Pierce.  The lead
trio battled just inches apart for the point during the first half of the
race.

Wallace pulled a slide job move for the lead in turn one on lap 17, but
Bloomquist shot back underneath Wallace in turn four to regain the lead.  By
lap 20, Bloomquist had chosen the low groove of the ½-mile clay oval, while Wallace worked the outside.  Wallace was able to repass Bloomquist for the lead on lap 37.

Pierce also shot around Bloomquist for second, and he then passed Wallace
for the lead he never gave up on lap 41.  While Pierce pulled away, Moran
put on a passing clinic around Florence Speedway.

Moran had worked his way up to the fifth spot by the time of the lap 63
caution period.  On the restart, Moran tangled with several cars in turn
four, and dropped back to the ninth spot.  In the remaining 35 laps of the
race, Moran came all the way back up to second.

Borla Muffler 10-lap Heat Race wins were taken by Wallace, Bloomquist,
Pierce, McDowell, Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN, and Eckert.  Lanigan out-timed the 64 entries with a lap in 18.121 seconds.  O'Neal won the 12-lap Pace American Trailers 1st Consolation Race, and the Polaris ATVs 2nd Consolation Race was won by Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, PA.

The cars and stars of the HAT Series will now prepare for a three-race Labor
Day Holiday Weekend.  On Friday night, Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in
Calvert City, KY will host a 75-lap $10,000-to-win event, and Atomic
Speedway in Knoxville, TN will host a $20,000-to-win 100-lap main event on
September 4-5.
