DOG HOLLOW SPEEDWAY

PHILLIPS GETS FIRST LM MAIN OF ‘99 AT DHS

                                                      July 30, 1999

STRONGSTOWN, PA-Rodney Phillips of Punxatawney picked up his first late model feature win of the season Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway. Repeat winners included: Mike Shoemaker of Hesston in the super stocks, Jerry Lower of Williamsburg in street stocks, and Nathan Leeman of Davidsville in the pure stocks.

Rodney Phillips and John Yamrick brought the late model field down for the green flag, with Phillips taking the lead. Phillips led the race from flag to flag, with first Yamrick pressuring him for the top spot, then by lap twelve Mike Blose had taken over second from his tenth place starting spot. Blose tried to reel in Phillips, but the Punxy driver was determined to turn his season around with the win. The top five were: Phillips, Blose, Yamrick, Tony Raneri, and Frankie Plessinger. Heat race wins went to Mike Blose and John Stine.

Dan Lee and Todd Mathews led the super stock field down for the start, with Lee taking the lead and Mathews pressuring him in second. Mike Shoemaker had worked his way to third from his 6th place starting position by lap two, and then he moved around Mathews for second entering turn one on lap five. Before the sixth lap was recorded, Shoemaker had gone to the inside of Lee in turns three and four and took the lead. Once outfront, Shoemaker went on to win handily over the rest of the field. While he led, Louie Jacoby was working his way towards the front from 12th. The top five at the finish were: Shoemaker, Lee, Mathews, Jim Parsons, Jr.., and Jacoby. Denny Petyak, Rick Lias, Tim Mullen, Ed Conner, and Al Zuccolotto completed the top ten. Shawn McGarvey and Louie Jacoby, Jr., won the heats.

Glenn Baker and Jeff Enos led the street stock field down for John Replogle’s green flag, but it was Fourth starting Fred Perkey, Jr., who made the daring four wide move off of turn four the lead the first lap. Once out front, Perkey endured two cautions, before ninth place starter Jerry Lower assumed the lead. Once he took the lead, it was J.R. Rowe who was heading through the field. Rowe, who started 12th, had moved to second, and gave it his all but came up about two car lengths short at the line. The win was Lowers fifth of the season, and his first since June 18th. Rowe was second, with Perkey, Tony Fama, and Bill Lyons completing the top five. Baker, Charlie Records, Dave Noel, Shawn Mogle, and Enos completed the top ten. Charlie Records, J.R. Rowe, and Jerry Lower won the heats, Bob Bean won the consolation.

The pure stock field was led down to the start by Brian Parsley and Bill Sigafoes, with Parsley taking the lead. As Parsley led, Nathan Leeman was working his way closer to the leader, and by lap three Leeman had worked by Parsley and took the lead. Twelfth place started Steve Diehl had worked his way to second late in the race, and had begun pressuring Leeman for first, but the young driver was determined to get his second win of 1999, and held Diehl off. The top ten went like this: Leeman, Diehl, Parsley, Henry Wilfong, Dan London, Darren Desch, Paul Crynock, Charlie Records III, Terry Nihart, and Amy Hawk. Heat race victories went to Dan London and Jim Kirsch.
