PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY

 

KAUFFMAN,HAUS,KRAPE TAKE PORT ROYAL FEATURES

Keith Kauffman captured his third sprint win of the Season in Port Royal’s 25 lap main event Saturday August 28. The victory clinched the Mifflintown driver's ninth track championship and was his 97th in a sprinter and 99th overall at the historic .Juniata County half mile. George Kulp jumped to the early lead and held it until the yellow flew on lap & Kauffman, running third at the time, used the Outside line on the restart to seize the top spot. The veteran campaigner held his edge the rest of the way. Cliff Brian, running Walt Dyer’s 401 for the second time, stayed within striking distance for the second half of the race. but had to settle for the runnerup spot. Todd Shaffer closed in third, while Todd Hestor finished fourth and Shawn Keen rode home fifth. Mike Wagner. George Kulp,. Scott Gesford, Chris Strait, and Pierron Reasnor completed the top ten. Kauffman and Will Cramer won the heats. 23 sprints were in the pits.

Hamburg’s Scotty Haus streaked to his fourth win of the year in the 20 lap Gray’s Auto Parts late model main. The win guaranteed Haus a Starting spot in the Hub City 150 to be held at Hagerstown Speedway later this year. Eric Hons held the lead at the outset, but surrendered the point on lap 4 to the high flying Haus. Haus held off a challenge over the last 5 laps from Tony Adams to get the win. Adams finished in the bridesmaids position, With Steve Campbell coming home third. Hons ran a fine race to get fourth. By virtue of his fifth place showing, Chris Shuey earned his first track title. Jeff Rine, Carl Billet, Mike Hess, Brian Shuey, and Kory Sites rounded out the top ten. Campbell, Hons. and Haus won the heats, While Jeff Bryner took the consey. 32 late models were on hand,

Tim Krape wrapped up the track championship by winning the 12 lap Stong’s Auto Parts/HP Engines pro Stock event. Scott Bargo drove to the early advantage and held off constant challenges until Krape was able to get by on the ninth Circuit and pull away to win in the nonstop feature. Bargo ran his best race of the season to finish in the runnerup spot, While last week’s feature winner Dick Shoop rode home third Jason Schmidt garnered fourth, and Brian Henry crossed the line fifth. Matt Johnson and Jim Palm won the heats 19 pro stocks were trackside.

Port Royal will be dark next Saturday night, but will be back in action Monday, September 6 with the annual Labor Day Classic as part Of the Juniata County Fair. The sprinters will be in action along with the K,A.R.S. 358 sprints and the Vintage stock cars for a three division Show starting at 1:30 in the afternoon.
