ROARING KNOB RACEWAY PARK

8/22/99

MARKLEYSBURG, PA..Leaving no doubt about it, late model driver Jeff Thomas, from Oakland, MD, found victory lane for the third time this season at Roaring Knob Raceway Park.  Sharing the winner's circle with Thomas on Sunday was Dilliner's Wayne Jordan (Pure Stocks), and Fairmont, WV's John Cogar, (DWARF Cars).
Jeff Miller grabbed the lead at the start of the late model main with
Bill VanMeter and fifth starting Thomas in hot pursuit. Thomas got by
VanMeter for second on the ninth circuit and took the lead away from Miller on the very next lap.  As the race went on Thomas built up a comfortable lead that he maintained to the finish.  Miller held on to the second position, and VanMeter ran a consistent race for third.  Last weeks winner, Bob Wearing Jr,worked his way from the rear of the field to nail down the fourth spot, and Nolan Dalton completed the top five.  Six through ten were Chris Conner, Rob King, Ron Reese, Jesse Guseman, and newcomer Russ Kolesar.  The two heat races for the Ken Nicholson & Sons Lumber Late Models were taken by Rob King
and Jeff Thomas.

Marshall Coleman led the first lap of the Country Charm Pure Stock main,
but Wayne Jordan powered by on the next circuit, and he went on to claim the
victory, his sixth of the season, at the Knob.  Scott Herring manuevered his
way into third and challenged Coleman for second with two to go, but a
determined Coleman held him off and nailed down the runner-up position.
Herring remained in third with Jim Bendishaw Jr. fourth, and Robbie Howell
was fifth.  Completing the top ten were Jim Shaffer, Billy Martin, Jack
Rosenberger, Chuck Capana and Bob Nelson.  Coleman, Jordan, and Howell were
the heat race winners.
A small, but very competitive, field of Stone House Restaurant DWARF cars
ran green to checker with John Cogar coming from the tail of the field to
pick up his sixth win of the season over Al Roach, Jeff Barclay, Greg
Shingleton, and Jeff Davis.  Cogar and Davis picked up the heat race wins.

Just three more events are left on the 99 race schedule at Roaring Knob
with Sunday, August 29 spotlighting the pure stocks in the "Pedal to the
Medal Pure Stock 20" sponsored by Maryland Minerals.  The late models and
DWARF Cars will also be in action.  Gates open at 3 with racing at 5 PM.  The following week, September 5, will be a regular racing program plus a demo derby.  The gates will open on the 5th at 2pm with racing set to begin at 4 PM.  The season ends on September 12 with the "King of the Knob 40" $2000 to win race for the late models.  In addition to the extra distance late model special is the "Run What You Brung - Pure Stock 20 Wild Thing" and the "Buzz the Knob" race for the DWARF Cars.  Gates open at 2 PM for this event, and the race program will begin at 4 PM.
The new millenium will bring many changes to Roaring Knob Raceway Park, the biggest and perhaps most notable being a change of race days.  The year 2000 will be the start of weekly Saturday race programs at Roaring Knob. Current plans are to continue with the Late Models, Pure Stocks, DWARF Cars, and an as yet undecided fourth division.  For additional information regarding the remaining schedule of events, please call (724) 329-0306.
