GREEN SWEEPS PRELIMINARIES FOR HAT ATOMIC WIVK 100:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

KNOXVILLE, TN – Marshall Green of Dalton, GA will start on the pole position for Sunday night’s United Dirt Track Racing Association Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series $20,000-to-win WIVK 100 at Atomic Speedway.

Green set fast time honors and then won the first 12-lap Borla Muffler Heat Race to earn the pole driving his Hatfield Racing Engines Warrior/Monte Carlo.Green drew a late qualifying number and then went out and turned in the fastest lap among the 43 entrants on Saturday night with a time around the 1/3-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.19 seconds. After starting on the pole position for the first heat, Green blasted past Scott Sexton of Pigeon Forge, TN to take the win and the pole position.

East Tennessee high-banked race tracks have been to Green this season, as his two Hav-A-Tampa wins in 1999 have come at Tazewell Speedway and Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN. On Sunday night, Green will be looking for a Hav-A-Tampa sweep of all three Tennessee tracks that HAT will visit in 1999.

Another HAT driver also continued his love affair with Atomic Speedway on Friday night. Rick Eckert of York, PA drove his Raye Vest Rocket/Grand Prix to victory in the second heat race, and will start on the outside of the front row for Sunday night’s big show. Eckert’s only HAT of the 1999 season came at Atomic Speedway back in March. The defending and three-time HAT Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN will start Sunday’s big show on the inside of row two after driving his Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Mustang to victory in the third heat race. Bloomquist is the defending champion of the Atomic Speedway HAT WIVK 100.

Former Atomic Speedway Late Model Champion, and now HAT regular Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN won the fourth heat and will start his Curtis Equipment GRT/Monte Carlo on the outside of the second row.

The top four finishers in each heat race transferred to the main event in the first 16 starting spots for Sunday night’s race. Starting positions 17 through 22 will be determined through the top three finishers in two 12-lap Consolation Races before the big show on Sunday night. Starting positions 23 and 24 will be HAT provisionals.

On Sunday, the pit gate opens at 2 p.m., with the grandstand gate opening at 5 p.m. There will be a HAT Drivers Autograph Session at 5:30 p.m. on souvenir row, and hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. Atomic Speedway is located just west of Knoxville at I-40 and U.S. Highway 321 at exit 364. The race day information line is (423) 986-3589.
