Inch RAHMER WIRES FIELD FOR FIRST SELINSGROVE ALL STAR VICTORY SELINSGROVE,
PA – Salfordville’s Fred
Rahmer wired the field for his victory in the 30-lap All Star Circuit of
Champions Sprint Car main event Sunday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
For Rahmer, at the wheel of the Hamilton Motorsports No. 77, the win was
worth $5,000 and marked the sixth of the season and the 43rd of his
career at Selinsgrove.
Rahmer became the 13th different driver to win an All
Star-sanctioned race at the track since 1970. Sunday night’s win also was
Rahmer’s fourth All Star Sprint Car win thus far in 1999.
Todd Hestor of Middleburg was the night’s fast qualifier with a one-lap
time of 16.979, while Joey Keister also of Middleburg wired the field for his
first 12-lap Pro Stock feature of the season. Selinsgrove Speedway will present a three division show consisting of Sprint Cars, Super Sportsman and Pro Stocks this Sunday, September 5 beginning at 7 p.m. Grandstand and pit gates will open at 5 p.m.
At the start of the All Star Sprint Car feature, polesitter Joey Saldana
and second-place starter Fred Rahmer raced wheel-to-wheel for almost the first
full lap before Rahmer put the Hamilton Motorsports machine into the lead coming
off turn four.
Once in front, Rahmer never relinquished the front spot despite several
late race restarts. The event’s first red flag unfurled on lap 13 when
Saldana’s race car broke and collided with Alan Cole’s racer. There were no
driver injuries.
For the restart, several lapped cars separated Rahmer and sixth-place
starter Todd Hestor in the two lead positions. When the race resumed, however,
Hestor drifted high in turns one and two and allowed third-place starter Kenny
Jacobs to take over second.
Near the midway point, the race for third intensified when ninth-place
starter Jeff Shepard began to pressure fifth-place starter and defending
Selinsgrove All Star winner Greg Hodnett for the third position.
For the final restart on lap 26, there were no lapped cars separating the
top five leading drivers. When the race resumed, Rahmer quickly stretched his
lead over Jacobs. Rahmer went unchallenged to the checkered flag, posting the
win ahead of Jacobs, Hodnett, Shepard and 18th-place starter Todd
Shaffer.
Joey Keister started on the outside of the front row and took the lead at
the start of the Pro Stock feature. Keister was chased by fourth-place starter
Donnie Murphy for all 12 laps, while sixth-place starter Gary Kerstetter moved
into third the second half of the event.
In the final laps, the top six drivers broke away from the rest of the
field and dueled for the front positions. Then the top two point drivers, Dave
Brouse and Tim Krape, collided in turn one and were sidelined for the night.
The final lap saw Murphy race bumper to bumper with Keister. Keister,
however, maintained the lead and recorded the win over Murphy, Kerstetter, Dave
Inch and Gerald Kratzer. SELINSGROVE
