PITTSBURGH'S PENNSYLVANIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

IMPERIAL, PA..It had been nearly three months since Steve Baker of Fairmont,WV visited victory lane at Pittsburgh's Pennsylania Motor Speedway. Saturday, on M. Stahl Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning night,  the "West Virginia Rim Rider" held off Davey Johnson for his second Late Model win of the season.
   Jim Stephans of Pittsburgh, who like Baker runs out of the Phil Lukon
Racing stable, captured the "4th Annual Jook George/Fall Classic 40" for the
Limited Late Models.  East Liverpool, OH's Larry Kugel scored an impressive
win in the M. Stahl E-Modifieds.
  In one of the best races of the season, Al Atallah of Carnegie edged
Frankie Schneider and Danny Rich for the  Schneider Truck Spectator Stock
checkered flag, and Kennedy Township's Tony Sinicrope collected his third
consecutive Amateur Stock victory.
  Twenty-eight Late Models were poised to do battle in the 25-lap feature. Unfortunately, a couple of first lap wrecks slowed the start.  Once the race got going, Doug Crawford and Steve Baker waged a wicked battle for the lead. After another caution on lap six, Baker was able to edge slightly ahead of Crawford while Davey Johnson , behind the wheel of  a new Brad Malcuit owned Rocket Chassis, began his procession to the front.   Johnson  was gunning for his third straight win,  and unseated Crawford for second with six laps remaining.  A four lap shoot-out following the final caution saw Baker withstand Johnson's charge, and win by a car length.  Crawford, Ricky Thomas and Mark Banal completed the top five.  Ben Miley, Doug Dodd, Rick Dawson,
B.A. Malcuit and Ed Ferree were sixth through tenth respectively.  Banal,Alex Ferree and John Flinner won the heat races.  Bill Knepper was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger.
  Dave Wade dominated the first half of the Limited Late Model 40-lap special
before Len Dobrosielski took control.  After Wade hit the wall and retired to
the pits, Jim Stephans quietly began pressuring Dobrosielski and made his
winning pass on lap 29.   The win was the biggest, and second of his career. 
Pete Loria was able to move past Dobrosielski for second.  Tom Schirnhofer
finished fourth and Todd Cerenzia fifth.  Completing the top ten were: George
Kowatic, Willie White, John Pavlick, Monarch Oil Hard Charger - Brian Laraway
and Chuck Mowry.   Wade was the fast qualifier and won  the dash and a heat. 
Rick Heim, who retired from the feature, won the other heat race.
  Larry Kugel overcame a first lap spin to rebound for the M. Stahl
E-Modified win. Points leader Wayne Tessean passed early leader Jeff
Broniszewski to take charge, but it was Kugel who was charging.  After taking
second on lap eight, Kugel overhauled Tessean for the lead on lap 11, and
then held off Tessean's final lap charge for his fourth win.  Broniszewski,
Russ Matejka and Scott Gunn rounded out the top five.  Finishing sixth
through tenth were: Rich Stiffler, Jeff Haefke, Mike Ross, Dennis Neiderriter
and Jim Petrelle.  Tessean was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger and won a heat
race along with Kugel.
  The Schneider Truck Spectator Stocks put on a superb show with Al Atallah,
Frankie Schneider and Danny Rich never more than a car length apart over the
final ten laps.  Coming three wide off the fourth turn for the checkered
flag, Atallah garnered his ninth win of the season.  Schneider, Rich, Monarch
Oil Hard Charger Neal Isiminger and Gary Smith rounded out the  top
five.  A.J. Puljak was sixth, Dave Greenawald seventh, Doug Foster eighth,
Rich Apolito ninth and Fred Schneider tenth.
  Tony Sinicrope  bested Bill Capo, Bob Schwartzmiller, Jason Fosnaught and
Mike McKee for his third straight Amateur Stock victory.
  This Saturday, September 4th,  is Colussy Chevrolet and Pittsburgh Circle
Track Club Night. The Late Models, Limited Lates, M. Stahl E-Modifeds,
Schneider Truck Spectator Stocks and Amateur Stocks return to action.  Gates
