Tony Stewart to Race at Talladega Short Track
Eastaboga, AL-Winston Cup rookie sensation Tony Stewart has announced his plans to race with the Southern All Stars Racing Series at Talladega Short Track on October 15th and 16th. Stewart will pilot his #98 JD Byrider sponsored Super Late Model at the famed 3/10 mile clay oval in two full racing events, Friday and Saturday night, preceding the Winston 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Stewart, who has competed in a myriad of racing divisions throughout his brilliant career, will drive his Dirt Super Late Model prepared by teammate Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN.
The 28 year old native of Columbus, IN won four Dirt Late Model races in 1998 while competing full time in the Indy Racing League and running a part time schedule for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series. He is no stranger to the dirt track racing, as he has won many features across the country during his record setting career. Stewart's resume includes the only driver to ever win the USAC Triple Crown in 1996, the IRL Championship in 1997, claiming two Winston Cup Poles and one Winston Cup victory in 1999. The popular driver of the Home Depot/Joe Gibbs Racing Winston Cup entry currently resides in 4th place in Winston Cup points and has an overwhelming lead in the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year title chase.
Racing action will begin at 8pm each night at Talladega Short Track with Tony Stewart and the Southern All Star Racing Series drivers competing in a 40 lap main event on Friday night and a 50 lap main event on Saturday night.
