PITTSBURGH'S PENNSYLVANIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

8/26/99
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(724) 853-RACE (7223) /www.ppms.com
(Media Contact:  Judy Gower)

IMPERIAL, PA..Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will bring a close to
the century in a big way with the "11th Annual Pittsburgher 100" Friday,
September 17th through Sunday, September 19th.  The biggest paying event on the 1999 STARS National DirtCar Racing League schedule will pay $21,000 to win and $1,000 to start.  Twenty-eight cars are guaranteed to start the
prestigious 100 lap race.
In addition to the STARS Late Models, the Schneider Truck Pure Stocks and
M. Stahl E-Modifieds will participate during the busy weekend.  Schneider
Truck, Hover Racing, Isiminger's Pennzoil, and G&L Racing Supply will sponsor the "1st Annual Pittsburgher Pure Stock Invitational" Friday, September 17th paying $500 to win, and starting 34 cars.  On Saturday, September 18th, the $1,200 to win "2nd Annual Myrgo Enterprises All-Star 50" for the M. Stahl E-Modifieds is on tap.  Thirty cars will make the starting grid for the York Triathlon Series event.
Friday evening's program will also include practice for the Late Models
and E-Modifieds.  Grandstand gates will open at 6pm with practice at 6:30.
Qualifying heats for the Pure Stock Invitational will start at 8pm.  Adult
general admission is $6 and kids under 12 are free.  Pit admission is $10.
Saturday's show will feature time trials, qualifying heats and the Isky
Racing Cams fast dash for the STARS Late Models beginning at 4pm, plus a
complete program for the M. Stahl E-Modifieds featuring the Myrgo "All-Star
50".  Grandstand gates open at noon with practice slated for 2pm.
The STARS Late Models will run the B-Mains followed by the "Pittsburgher
100" Sunday starting at 2pm.  Gates open at 11am on Sunday.  General
admission two-day adult tickets are $35.  Saturday only is $20, and Sunday
only is $35.  Kids 9-14 are $7 Saturday and Sunday.  Under 9 are free.  Pit
admission is $45 for a two-day pass.  Saturday only is $25 and Sunday only is
$45.  No tickets will be sold in advance.  The rain dates are October 1st -
3rd.
The Pittsburgher will mark the 24th time the STARS have sanctioned an
event at Dirt's Monster Half-Mile.  Tim Hitt collected his second
Pittsburgher triumph last season.  Scott Bloomquist is the only three-time
winner of the race.  Davey Johnson has found the winner's circle twice, and
Rick Aukland, Donnie Moran and Bob Wearing Jr. have one Pittsburgher win each.
Johnson won the STARS Penn National 100 earlier this season and will try
to join Hitt as the only driver to win both the Penn National 100 and
Pittsburgher 100 in the same season.  Heading into the final weekend of
August, Davey has four wins at PPMS this season.

Lou Bradich has already clinched the 1999 Late Model track championship
and heads the season win list with five checkered flags.  Three time winner
B.A. Malcuit, Steve Baker, Mike Cecere, Doug Crawford, Mark Banal, Rick
Dawson, Ricky Thomas, Dennis Curry, and Bill Knepper are among the other top PPMS competitors who hope to outshine the STARS.

Only three drivers have  started all ten previous Pittsburgher's.  Mike
Balzano, Chub Frank and Gary Stuhler are "The Triumphant Trio".  A total of
93 drivers have made the starting grid for at least one Pittsburgher.  Will
we reach the century mark this year to end the century at PPM

Don't miss the biggest STARS race in 1999.  A full weekend of racing awaits
September 17th - 19th at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.
