(SUPER LATE MODEL DIRT SERIES)

Southern All Stars Head To Cherokee Speedway For 15th Annual Stick Elliott Memorial

GAFFNEY, SC--The Southern All Stars Super Dirt Late Model Series will return to the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC, Saturday night September 25th for the 15th Annual Stick Elliott Memorial, paying $5,000 to win $300 to start for the 50 lap event around the big fast 1/2 mile clay oval.

The fans at Gaffney will also have something extra to cheer about as one of their former weekly competitors Jeff Smith of Kings Mountain, NC, is currently second in the SAS Super Late Model points just 30 points behind current points leader of Jamie Perry of Ringgold, GA, Both drivers are trying to win their first series championship with Jeff close to winning the BTW/LATE MODEL AMERICA Rookie of the Year Award.

In the third spot in the series points standings is former SAS Champion Mike Head of Ellenwood, GA, fourth to Duayne Hommel of Parrottsville, TN, who is coming off his first series win at the Green Valley Speedway over the labor Day weekend and fifth is another longtime SAS competitor Stan Amacher of Tullahoma, TN, all of whom are expected to be in competition.

Drivers that are expected to compete this weekend include Carnell Parker of Clarksville, TN, Ronnie Johnson Chattanooga, TN, and Rex Richey of Ringgold, GA, 

The local drivers will also be out in full force as the All Star regular in and leading them will be Mike Duvall, Dennis Franklin, David Smith, Peter Ivey, Chris Madden, Larry Blankenship, Billy Hicks, Mike Gault and Ray  Tucker.

Gene Daves better known as "Stick Elliott" who the event is named after, was a well known Late Model driver on the Carolina dirt tracks that also competed on the NASCAR Grand National Circuit during the 1960 and early 70 's died of a race form of spinal meningitis when he was 46 years old. This will be the 15th edition of the event and as always will be one of the top events of the season at the Cherokee Speedway.
