WEAVER WEAVES LAKEVILLE CROWN 2 WIN

By M.D. Swanger
Lakeville Ohio Friday, July 23, 1999

A stellar field of 45 Late Models from 5 states pulled into the pits of Lakeville Speedway for the second crown of the Triple Crown series and despite a rain shower just as hot laps started, the whole program, including a wedding was done by 11:15 p.m.
The 50 lap feature was 2 features in one as far as the type of racing that went on as the first 26 laps were close and tight but the last 24 laps the field spread out. Lakeville regular Blaine Aber popped into the lead on the second lap as he motored around Shane Yoder. Aber built up a 12 car length advantage as Yoder was fighting off the challenges of John Mason and Ryan Markham with Kevin Weaver and Keith Berner going side by side for fifth. Mason took over second on lap 20 as Weaver pulled into 4th behind Yoder. The second caution came out at the halfway mark as Berner spun trying to get by Markham for fifth. On the restart, Weaver took third from Yoder as that turned out to be the winning move as things for Aber and Mason literally fell apart. As he crossed the line starting lap 27, Aber's #81 conked out, giving the lead to Mason but as he reached turn two, the #72 lost power and Yoder did not have time to react and smacked into Mason. Weaver was running up along the cushion to miss the action and take over the lead as Yoder was given 2nd place back but enough sheet metal damage was done to the #8 that he could not keep up with Weaver for the rest of the race. Driving the Terra International, Precision Plastics and Lynn Chevrolet #b12, the Gibson City, Ill. pulled away and only a caution with 4 laps to go gave Yoder a chance but Weaver, who started 13th after winning the first last chance race, drove away on the restart to pocket the $5,000 first place money, the second time in two years he has won the $5,000 to win show. Charlie Duncan won the 2nd last chance race and finished third after starting 14th. Imperial Pa's Mike Johnson outdueled Toledo's Matt Miller for fourth. Winning the heats were Greg Lucas, Alan Baker, Keith Berner, and Todd Smith.
The first of two Hall's Auto Sales Street Stock mains went to Mansfield's Wayne Maffet Jr. as he tok the lead away from Mike Lonas on the second lap to pull into the Budweiser victory lane for the second week in a row. Ashland's Scott Clantz also picked up his second straight win in the second feature. It was a big night for Scott as he married Kim Roland in victory circle before the races started. Pastor Doug Wantz officiated the ceremony. Creston's Chet Fry came from his 21st starting spot to win the Rick Moore Motors Cruiser main as he passed Jeff Norris on the 6th lap to post the win.. The second running of the 4-Cylinder Cruisers saw Mark Adkins of Big Prairie chalk up his second win as he took the top spot away from Jamie Rose on the second lap.
The Third Crown for the Late Models will be held on Friday, August 13th and the fans and drivers and crews are already talking about it as the 60 lap feature will pay $6,000 to the winner.
