Bob Pierce tops field for $10,000 Victory.

(Joliet IL) When you are on a roll, sometimes things keep going that way. Oakwood Illinois, driver Bob Pierce is apparently in that mode. Following up on his first career Hav-A-Tampa victory 6 days ago, Pierce pulled off a win in the Prairie Dirt Classic by Chilli Man Chili here Friday Night.

Pierce, who started from the pole of the forty lap feature, took the lead from the drop of the green flag and was never headed on his way to the victory, and the $10,000 top prize. Behind Pierce however, was a fierce battle for second through fifth, with many drivers vying for position. After an intense battle with Kevin Weaver, Brian Birkhofer eventually secured the position, and although he closed ground on Pierce, he was never able to mount a challenge. The battle with Weaver went on for several laps, with Birkhofer staying glued to the bottom, while Waver was running the far top-side of the track. Behind Pierce and Birkhofer at the finish were, Billy Moyer Jr, Shannon Babb, Kevin Weaver, Kris Patterson, Ed Dixon, Joe Ross Jr., Steve Hillard, and Doug McCammon. The race was slowed by two cautions, and also featured many side-by side battles.

With 63 cars on hand representing 8 states, Bob Pierce set fast time around the big 1/2 mile with a time of 18.910 seconds. By virtue of setting fast-time Pierce picked up a $250.00 bonus for taking the Kevin Roderick fast-time award. In addition, Pierce also picked up enough sheets of aluminum from Petersen Aluminum to put together a new body. Heat race winners were Bob Pierce, Ed Dixon, John Gill, Billy Drake, and Shannon Babb. The Petersen Aluminum Corporation Consolation Races were taken by Bob Pohlman Jr., and Frank Reaber, who is ironically sponsored by Petersen Aluminum Corporation.

Official Finish:

Bob Pierce, Brian Birkhofer, Billy Moyer Jr., Shannon Babb, Kevin Weaver, Kris Patterson, Ed Dixon, Joe Ross Jr., Steve Hillard, Doug McCammon, Gary May, Jerry Redetzke, Jim O’Connor, Frank Reaber, Matt Miller, Bob Pohlman Jr., Al Atkinson, Bill Knippenburg Sr., Billy Drake, John Provenzano, John Gill, Jim Curry, Mike Mullvain, Darren Miller, Tony Izzo Jr.
