Greg Skinner Claims TST Track Championship

Eastaboga, AL- Greg Skinner of Oxford, AL wrapped up his first ever Talladega Short Track Championship in the Kilpatrick Chevrolet Super Late Model division during the 18th Annual Alabama Dirt Track Jamboree. Skinner picked up enough points to mathematically erase any possibility of Randy Peoples closing the gap with two races to go. Skinner also claims the Kilpatrick/Pierson Chevrolet Challenge Series by virtue of also winning the Green Valley Speedway Track Championship.

Danny Peoples of Margaret, AL won the 30 lap Kilpatrick Super Late Model division feature after setting fast time in Ammotorsports.com Pole Qualifying and leading flag to flag in dominating fashion. Following Peoples across the stripe were Jerry Goodwin, Terry Smith, Ted Lackey, and Ross Martin. Peoples was piloting his Vinson Racing Engines/Peoples Racing/TNT Monte Carlo.

Randy Peoples picked up the $1,500 to win portion of the Alabama Dirt Track Jamboree in the Sportsman division. Sportsman newcomer Richard Ogle was second, followed by Ricky Cotton, Carlton Freeman, and Dennis Collins. Both Peoples and Ogle were protested after the event and both were found to be legal.

Scottie Hiett won the $1,000 to win portion of the special event in the IMCA Modified Division. Along with claiming the big win, Hiett wrapped up the IMCA Gulf Coast Region Championship. It is the second year in a row that a TST driver has won the prestigious title. Gene Mince finished a strong secong followed by Eddie Brannon, David Newton, and Jamie Gowers. The IMCA S tock Car class was dominated once again a Steven Forsythe as he picked another victory as he has been on a rail as of late. Billy Yarborough was second with James Layfield finishing third.

Odenville's Tommy Brasher won the $1,000 to win Pony Stock event after the top three finshers refused to tear down after being protested. Following Brasher were Brian Burtram, Cliff Walker, Jay Dunnaway, and Randy Martin in the full field of exciting Pony Stock competitors. The team of King and Meharg won the wild two-person Cruiser event which featured another rollover as these guys put on another great show.

The next event on tap for TST will be on October 15th and 16th for the Southern All Star X-TREME Weekend coinciding with the Winston 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. The SAS Bandits will be in action on Friday night the 15th and the SAS Super Late Models will be in action on Saturday night the 16th. Gates open at 4pm with racing at 8pm each night.
