BOGGS TAKES "RIVER DAYS 100", JACKIE THAT IS!!!

Jackie Boggs of Grayson,KY scored his first career STARS National DirtCar Racing League sanctioned victory Sunday pocketing the $15,000 to win "Pepsi River Days 100" at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth,OH. Driving the McDonalds/Cecil Salvage/Impact Graphics/MasterSbilt Chassis/Hixson Racing Engines No. 4B Steve Cascio Racing Pontiac Grand Prix, the second generation driver ran down race long leader Steve Shaver in lapped traffic on lap 87 and took the lead on lap 88 and then held off Donnie Moran for his largest career payday. "I think we out tired the rest of them", said Boggs in victory circle. "The car just kept getting better and better as the race went on and my guy's just told me to keep it on the bottom once we got the lead. It feel's good to finally get a STARS win. I'm really happy right now and just don't now what to say". Moran finished nearly a second behind Boggs with Shaver third, Chub Frank fourth and twelfth starting Davey Johnson fifth. Completing the top ten were R.J. Conley, nineteenth starting Mike Balzano, Paul Harris, twentieth starting Delmas Conley and Booper Bare.

From the pole Shaver took the lead after one lap with Frank, Moran, Boggs and R.J. Conley trailing at the end of the first lap. Lap two saw the races only caution wave as Jack Boggs spun on the frontchute after contact with Eddie Carrier Jr. Shaver took off on the restart opening up a one second lead by the time he entered lapped traffic on lap 11. Boggs worked his way past Moran for third on lap 23 and one lap later Moran nearly spun to a stop in heavy lapped traffic falling back to the ninth position and giving Bare the fifth spot. Shaver worked his way through the backmarkers and opened up a three second lead by lap 40. Frank spun in turn four on lap 42 but kept his car moving falling back to the fourth spot moving Boggs to second and R.J. Conley to third. Moran worked his way back to fifth on lap 48 and at the halfway mark Shaver enjoyed a three and a half second lead with Boggs, Conley, Frank and Moran trailing followed by Bare, Harris,Johnson, Balzano and Delmas Conley. Shaver had opened his lead up to four  seconds by lap 70 as Moran went by Frank for fourth and then took third from Conley on lap 76. Frank grabbed fourth from Conley on lap 78 as Shaver saw lapped traffic directly in front of him. By lap 85 Shaver's lead had been whittled down to one and a half seconds as he slowed behind the backmarkers. Boggs closed rapidly on Shaver bringing Moran with him and on lap 87 the three raced three wide off of turn two with Boggs inching ahead of Shaver on lap 88 as Moran took second one lap later. The final ten laps saw Moran look inside and outside of Boggs but he never could find the room necessary to make the pass as Boggs took the checkered flag with a two car length margin.

The $48,000 purse drew 63 drivers to the semi-banked 1/3rd mile track with Tim Hitt setting quick time at 14.685 seconds. BORLA EXHAUST heat race wins fell to Audie Swartz, Craig Leist (SCOTT PERFORMANCE WIRE heat race bonus winner), Steve Lucas, Shaver, Boggs and Frank. Shaver snared the ISKY RACING CAMS dash while Balzano and Delmas Conley took the PRO SHOCKS "B" Mains.
