SOUTHERN ALL STAR RACING SERIES PRESS RELEASE #11
(TOPLESS BANDIT LATE MODEL DIRT SERIES)

Dana Eiland Uses Home Track Advantage To Win Southern All Star Topless
Bandit At Penton

By Lynn Acklin
Huntsville, AL

PENTON, AL--The Southern All Stars Topless Bandit Series made it only
apperance of the 1999 season Friday night at the Penton Raceway in Penton,
AL, and under the the threat of rain all night Dana Eiland of Phenix City,
AL, won his career first SAS race as he held off the 1996 Bandit Champion
Greg Skinner for the win.
Eiland and  Skinner started on the first row, and when they got the first
intial green flag going into turn one everybody got together and the back
half of the field was in the wreck.  After getting all the car apart and
they tried three more times to get started but kept wrecking before getting
the first lap complete and series officials pout them in single file order
for the start.
Eiland pulled ahead of Skinner at the drop of the green with David Gentry
close behind in third.  This trio battled for the first 15 laps of the race
Eiland and Skinner would start to break away from the third place car of
Gentry.
Skinner was making several moves to the inside of Eiland and tried to take
the lead, but the caution flag would  keep coming out in the late stages of
the race allowing Skinner's tires to cool off and he then had to get a long
stretch of green flag racing to try and run Eiland down.
Both drivers drove the last ten laps nose to tail with Skinner trying
several more times to pass Eiland, but the two never made contact and drove
each other clean with Eiland getting his first win with the series.  Skinner
of  Oxford, Al, and past champion of the series came in the second spot,
third to David Gentry of Wheel, TN, who cut into the point lead of John
Llewellyn as he finished in the 12th spot.  Fourth place went to Ricky
Williams of Fayetteville, GA, and fifth to Stacy Holmes of Anniston, AL.
Rounding out the top ten were Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, in his
first start of the year with the series, seventh another starter Terreance
Nowell of Phenix City, AL, eighth to Freddie Lee of Rainbow City, AL, who
was in the first major wreck of the night and came back for a top ten
finish, ninth Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA, and tenth to Laddie
Fulcher of Thomaston, GA, in his first start of the year with the series.
