SOUTHERN ALL STAR RACING SERIES

(SUPER LATE MODEL DIRT SERIES)

Bo Shirley Back In SAS Winners Circle At Duck River

By Lynn Acklin

HUNTSVILLE, AL

WHEEL, TN--The Southern All Star Super Late Models retunred for their final

apperance of the season Sunday night at the Duck River Speedway and before

a standing room only crowd Bo Shirley of Gadsden AL, was the man on top of

the pile as he bested the 40 Late Models that were on hand for the race.

Mark Mears of Decatur, AL, set fast time and and jumped into the lead at

the start with Shirley in the second spot, Dale Ledlow of Muscle Shoals, AL,

third and Bill Robertson fourth. Mears worked the bottom and Shirley stayed

on the top with Shirley taking the lead on the fifth lap and never looking

back. Mears tried to get Shirley on a couple of restarts, but could never

get the bite he needed to try and take the win.

Late in the race Shirley and Mears were pretty much settled into the top

two spots, but Dale Ledlow, Bill Robertson and Jay Brinkley were battling

for second through fifth, and fartehr back Carnell Parker, Jeff Smith, David

Gentry and Mike Head were all battling for a spot in the top ten.

At the end of the 50 laps Shirley was back in the winners circle after a

long absence in SAS racing with Mears taking home the second spot, third

went to Dale Ledlow in his best run with the series this year, fourth went

to Bill Robertson of Florence, AL, in his first start with the series and

fifth to Jay Brinkley of Shelbyville, TN.

Finishing in the sixth spot was Tim Roszell of Anniston, AL, in one his

best performances of the season, seventh to current points leader Jamie

Perry of Ringgold, GA, eight to Jeff Smith of King Mt, NC., the second place

man in points and current BTW/LATE MODEL AMERICA Rookie of the Year leader,

ninth went to David Gentry who won the second Last Chance Qualifier and

tenth to Mike Head of Ellenwood, GA., who struggled all weekend with car

problems.

The next SAS Super Late Model event will be on Saturday night October 16th

at the Talladega Short Track a 50 lap $3,000 to win event.
