Hav-A-Tampa

BLOOMQUIST SWEEPS ROUTE 66 OPENER
July 2, 1999

JOLIET, IL - Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN drove his Miller Brothers
Coal Warrior/Mustang to a clean sweep Friday night at Route 66 Raceway by
winning the 50-lap Main event for the United Dirt Track Racing Association
Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series.

On his way to the $5,000 top prize, the defending and three-time Hav-A-Tampa
Champion set fast time honors among the 36 entrants, and also won the first
8-lap Borla Muffler Heat Race.  The wire-to-wire victory was the second of
the season for Bloomquist, and the 64th of his HAT career.

Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN shadowed Bloomquist throughout the event that was
slowed by only one caution flag.  Arp was able to pull to the inside of
Bloomquist in turn one on lap 44, but Bloomquist was able to out drag Arp
down the backstretch of the 3/8-mile clay oval.  Arp reloaded his Curtis
Equipment GRT/Monte Carlo for one last shot at the win.

On lap 49, Arp closed again on Bloomquist, but running the high side, jumped
the cushion in the first turn, and Bloomquist was able to speed away for the
win.  The victory moved Bloomquist from fifth to fourth in the season point
standings.

Arp hung on for the second spot, and Steve Francis of Ashland, KY finished
third in the Action Auto Mart Rocket/Monte Carlo.  Bill Frye of Greenbrier,
AR brought his UniFirst Uniforms Warrior/Grand Prix home in fourth spot, and
Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI charged from the 12th starting spot to finish
fifth in the Performance Roofing Systems Rayburn/Monte Carlo.

Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL finished sixth in the Barto Enterprises
Warrior/Monte Carlo, and was the last car on the lead lap.  Seventh through
tenth spots one lap down respectively were 1996 HAT Champion Freddy Smith of
Knoxville, TN; Rick Eckert of York, PA, Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR,
and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA.

A lap during qualifications in 18.22 seconds earned Bloomquist his first
fast time honor of the season.  He followed that up with a win in the first
8-lap Borla Muffler Heat Race to earn the pole position for the main event.

Birkhofer, Francis, and Tony Izzo of Bridgeview, IL also won heat races.
The Pace American Trailers 8-lap First Consolation Race was won by Clayton
Christenberry of Knoxville, TN, and the 8-lap Polaris ATVs Second
Consolation Race was won by Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC.

The Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series Late Models return to action on Saturday
night at Route 66 Raceway with a 60-lap $7,000-to-win main event.  On Sunday
night, the eight-race HAT Midwest Tour concludes at Route 66 Raceway with a
75-lap $10,000-to-win main event that will be taped for airing later this
year on the Speedvision Television Network.
