GREEN, FRANCIS, PIERCE, AND AUKLAND TAKE BROWNSTOWN HAT HEATS


 BROWNSTOWN, IN - Marshall Green of Dalton, GA will start on the pole
position for Saturday night's United Dirt Track Racing Association
Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series $15,000-to-win Jackson 100 at Brownstown
Speedway.

 Green drove his Hatfield Racing Engines Warrior/Monte Carlo to victory in
the first of four 12-lap Borla Muffler Heat Races on Friday night that
determined the "Sweet 16" starting spots for the 30th event of the 1999 10th
Anniversary $3-Million Hav-A-Tampa season.

To earn the pole, Green came from the third starting spot to outrun fast
qualifier Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN.  Arp out-qualified the 46 entries with
a lap around the ¼-mile clay oval in 15.929 seconds driving the Curtis
Equipment GRT/Monte Carlo.

Steve Francis of Ashland, KY drove his Action Auto Mart Rocket/Monte Carlo
to the win in the second heat, and will start along side Green in the front
row for Saturday night's big show.

The second row will see third heat race winner Bob Pierce of Oakwood, IL in
the Murphy Trucking Rayburn/Monte Carlo on the inside with fourth heat race
winner Rick Aukland of Fargo, ND in the 10-10-220 MasterSbilt/Grand Prix
along side.  Arp will start on the inside of row three along side Bill Frye
of Greenbrier, AR in the UniFirst Uniforms Warrior/Grand Prix.

Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN starts his GRT/Monte Carlo on the inside of
row four with Rick Eckert of York, PA on the outside.  Two former HAT
Champions make up the fifth row with 1996 HAT Champion Freddy Smith of
Knoxville, TN on the inside and 1997 HAT Champion Billy Moyer of Batesville,
AR on the outside.

 Billy Drake of Bloomington, IL starts on the inside of the sixth row, with
Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN on the outside.  The seventh row has C.J.
Rayburn of Whiteland, IN on the inside with Doug Ault of Brownstown, IN on
the outside.  Jim Curry of Brownstown, IN is on the inside of row 8, and Dan
Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI rounds out the Sweet 16.

 Among the 30 drivers failing to miss the show through the heat races were
three of the top four drivers in the HAT point standings.  They will have to
try and make the Jackson 100 starting line-up through 12-lap consolation
races Saturday night.

 HAT point leader Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR starts on the pole
position of the Pace American Trailers 1st Consolation Race, and Dale
McDowell of Rossville, GA, who is second in HAT points, starts on the
outside of the front row for the Polaris ATVs 2nd Consolation Race.

The Defending and three-time HAT Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN will start on the pole for the 2nd Consy.  Bloomquist won last Saturday night's HAT USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI.

The gates open at noon on Saturday, with the HAT Drivers Autograph Session
at 5 p.m., and the Open-Wheel Modifieds will also be in action.  Brownstown
Speedway is located two miles south of Brownstown, IN on State Road 250.
