Tazewell Speedway

 Results: July 31, 1999

Art Bean

Next Saturday night August 7, 1999 the Southern All Stars will be at TAZEWELL SPEEDWAY with a 75 lap, $5,000 to win show for the Super Late Models.

Billy "The Kid" Ogle is in the Hospital with Stomach Problems. Get Well "Kid" from the Fans at TAZEWELL SPEEDWAY.

Now on to the action at THE TAZ in late model action it was #38 John Thompson and #52 Scott Sexton on the front roll. At the drop of the green Thompson jumped in to the led, but before a lap was completed Sexton has a RR tire go flat. With no laps on the board, it was a complete restart. On the complete restart it was again Thompson jumping in to the led, on lap 4 Sexton passed Thompson and #25 Mark Brooks spinning giving the led back to Thompson. On the restart it was Thompson, Sexton, #5 Bryan Hendrix, #144 Ricky Rogers, #90 Jack Trammell. Lap 5, Rogers crossed it up coming off turn 4 and got together with #11b Stacy Boles, tearing the right side off Boles Car. Lap 7, #44 Mark Leach, #7 Marty Calloway, #h17 Harold Simpson, Brooks piled up in turn 2. On the restart it was Thompson, Sexton, Hendrix, Trammell, #6 Keith Longmire. Lap 9, Rogers spun at the flag stand, and the restart stayed the same as lap 7.

Lap 10, all broke lost as Simpson and Brooks got together on the backstretch. Brooks got the top of his #25 up on the backstretch wall, then doing cart wheels over the turn 3 wall with the fans seeing the bottom of his car as it cleared the 3 turn wall and ending up down in the field outside the track. Turn 3 is the biggest bank on the outside of the track. Brooks landed on his top, but his MasterSbilt done it job as Brooks got up and walked back up the side of the field and back on to the track. Unhurt but I'm sure he will we a little sore for a few days, as it was a scary site as the race was red flagged at this point to check on Brook. The restart remanded the same on the restart. Lap 13 Caution for debris in turn 3. Lap 20, #3 Steve Smith who started 15th passed Longmire on the front stretch for 5th place. Smith and Longmire had been racing side by side for several laps. Longmire got up on the turn 1 wall and rode the wall around to turn 2. Lap 22 Thompson while leading got up on the turn 2 wall giving the led to Sexton. On the restart it was Sexton, Hendrix, Trammell, Smith, Boles. Lap 26, #52 (Yel/Org) Troy Eads lost a LF tire, restart remained the same. With the laps winding down Trammell and Smith raced side by side, with Boles on their bumper waiting for them to make a mistake.

THUNDER AND LIGHTING

With the drop of the green it was #2 (yel) David Gamble and #22 Mitch Houston going for the led on the first lap with Gamble leading the 1st lap. Lap 2, Houston and #1 Fred England rubbed and Houston getting a flat tire, on the restart Houston was on the rear of the field. Lap 5, #27 James Weaver spun in turn 2, restart it was Gamble, England, #2 (wht) Mike Hodges, #91 Randall Self, #10 Bubba Long. Lap 6, Hodges got under England for 2nd. Lap 12 #28 Johnny Miller (wht/blk) spun in turns 3/4. Lap 16, #15 Jason Long lost a tire in turn 4 and spun, restart it was Gamble, B. Long, Houston, Hodges, Self. Lap 21, Houston spun and Hodges stopped to miss Houston in turn 2, at the same time B. Long touched Gamble as the caution came out. Track official sent Hodges to the back thinking he was involved in the insendent, Hodges didn't want to go to the back of the field and was black flagged. Later Houston told track officials that Hodges had not touched him. Just goes to show you that we all make mistakes and that there are some honest people in racing.

MODIFIED STREET

Allen Mayes #40 took the led and #26 Anthony Morgan moved in to the 2nd spot from his 4th place starting place on lap 1. Lap 2, caution for #23 Jim Bob Shell who stopped on the backstretch. Restart it was Mayes, Morgan, #88 Chris Brooks, #17 Leonard Bray, #1 Wayne Overholt. Lap 3, Morgan passed Mayes for the led when Mayes slid high in turn 2, along with Brooks moving in to the 2nd place. Lap 5, #6 Regan Debusk who started 14th moved in to the 5th spot. Debusk while running 2nd in points in pure street moved up to modified street this week. Lap 9, Morgan while leading the race lost a LF wheel on the backstretch and Brooks ran over the back of Morgan car. Moving Mayes back in to the led, followed by Bray, Debusk, #24 Jack England, #12 Jerry Hurst. Lap 11, Bray passed Mayes on the backstretch for the led and went on to take the win.

PURE STREET

With 26 cars taking to the track #25 Junior Cody who started 23rd crossed it up on the start and hit the inside front stretch wall, making it a complete restart. On the complete restart #7 Mike Bright (blk/blu/pnk) got the just on #56 Tony Horton. Horton pushed Bright for four laps, #57 Charlie England flew from his 12th starting spot to push on England like they were chained together. Lap 4, #06 Mitch Fergerson got up on wall in turn 2, at the same time #50 Jonathan Miracle lost a tire in turn 4. On the restart it was Bright, Horton, Fergerson, #7 Bobby Bean (blk/wht/red) Lap 5, Bean passed Fergerson for 3rd, but a caution came out for #10 Jerry Collett who was leaking water on the track, moving Bean back in to the 4 th. place. Lap 6, Bean passed Fergerson back for 3rd. Lap 11 Horton pushed Bright coming off turn 4 and Bright lost it, first hitting the outside front stretch wall then the inside wall. Giving the lead to Horton. On the restart it was Horton, Bean, #83 Overholt, #44 Howie Sturgill, #e3 Eddie Weaver. On the white flag lap it was Horton, Bean, Overholt. But at the checkered flag it was Horton taking the win and a close call for 2nd between Bean and Overholt, with Overholt up against the wall taking 2nd by inches.
