EMORY AND CARLSON CLAIM VICTORY IN THE SCOTT’S AUTO WRECKING CADET

CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ERIEZ SPEEDWAY

Erie, PA - It was a night of exciting finishes as Bryan Emory and Chad Carlson claimed victory in the Scott’s Auto Wrecking Cadet Championships

The first of the 20-lap Cadet championship races got under way with Willie Kaschack getting the start on the pole. However, Rush Firestone shot to the front with an intent to stay there. Cubby Haupt was pressing Firestone for the lead in the tenth lap with Steve Yokum not tar behind in third. Race favorite Bryan Emory didn’t disappoint fans as he passed Firestone on the outside in a gutsy Move to claim the lead in the 14th lap. Emory never let up until he crossed the finish line. Yokum got by Firestone for second. Greg Fenno raced from behind to claim third.

"I thought I had a chance to win because I had a strong car throughout the race. I just didn’t know for sure until the checkered flag was thrown." said a smiling Emory.

Dewey Kinnear grabbed the lead early in the second lap of the second Cadet championship feature. However, a flat in the 14th lap forced Kinnear into the pits with Corry, PA native Andy Sweetland assuming the command with Chad Carlson right on his bumper. The two were battling for position when a caution flag was dropped in the final lap. Carlson charged hard throughout the race steadily gaining until he was in a position to challenge for the lead. It was a race to the finish with Carlson taking the checkered flag with only a few feet to go- Sweetland had to settle for second place with Greg Johnson finishing only inches behind Sweetland for third.

 

Greg Johnson got the pole position Start in the All Pro Run For the Money. However Bryan Emory took home the checkered flag. Johnson went high in turn one on the first lap and Emory was able to get a smooth inside line to take away the lead and the Victory. the weekly five-lap All Pro dash is a shootout between the Cadet feature winners from the previous week.

 

Rich Gardner, Chad Ruhlman and Doug Eck were racing one right behind the other to start the Super Late Model feature. The pack continued that way for several laps with Gardner eventually opening up some daylight behind him. Eck tried pressing Ruhlman in the final laps. but he had to settle for third place and watch Ruhlman take take second. This was Gardner’s first feature win of the season at Eriez.

 

Charlie Robinson took advantage of his start up front to lead the pack in the Limited Late Model feature with Jake Lechtner in hot pursuit. There was quite a pile-up to start the second lap in turn one as nine cars got together. Nobody was injured and after everyone was separated, racing resumed. 0n the restart there was a three car crash in turn three, When racing was under way once again, things remained status quo until the final lap when Chris Hackett charged hard in turn three trying to get to the front. However. Hackett spun out leaving Robinson to enjoy his victory, Lechtner finished second With Brian Dowries taking third.

 

Budweiser Super Sportsman action saw Dave Eades come up from third position to challenge early race leader Randy Parmenter. He tried everything he could, but Parmenter was Just too much for him.

Parmenter took the checkered flag with Eades right behind him in the second spot. Cris Dahlgren raced well to finish third.

 

John Boardman started the first Spectator feature with some tough luck as the front wheel of his car came off in turn three of the third lap. With racing back under way, Joe Laurie duked it out with the 21. car of Brad Pease. Laurie had to head to the pits in the next lap giving Pease the Lead and the win. Pease not only won the feature, but his heat race earlier in the night. Scott Coon came from the back of the pack to take second with Tim Pierce coming in third.

 

The second Spectator feature got under way with a restart as the 79 car of Art Churchill and the 68 car of Brian Johnson got together. With the green flag waving, Gerald Kielar jumped out front for the lead with Tom Perkins right behind him. Kielar expanded his lead as the race progressed. Perkins was able to hang onto second place with Mike Harmon coming through traffic for third.

 

It wasn’t a good night to be the early leader in the third Spectator feature. The first three leaders all experienced problems getting out of shape with Aaron Jelley finally assuming command in the seventh lap. Jelley had his hands full holding off Chris Sutton, hut was able to hold on for the win, Pat Gorton raced well to get by Tommy Fox in the final lap to take third.
