RAIN CANCELS SPRINTS & LATE MODELS AT HAGERSTOWN

HAGERSTOWN, MD - A steady rain that moved into the area Saturday night that

continued into Sunday morning forced Promoter Frank Plessinger to cancel the

Sunday afternoon double header program of super sprints and late models. The

program will not be rescheduled.

The super sprints will return to Hagerstown for the final program of the

season and the century in the Octoberfest 350. The two-day program, scheduled

for October 30-31, will bring together the top four divisions in dirt track

racing, the only program of its kind. The super sprints will be in action

with qualifying events on Saturday, October 30th and will finish out their

season with a 50-lap $10,000 to win feature. Admission for the two day

program is still only $30.00 for both days.

Joining the super sprints in the Octoberfest will be the big block

modifieds, late models and small block modifieds. All three divisions will

join the super sprints in qualifying heats and consolations on Saturday and

finish out the spectacular weekend with 100-lap features for each division

paying $10,000 to the winner. A purse in excess of $100,000 will bring

together the best drivers in the business for what promises to be a great way

to bring down the curtain on the 1999 season and 20th century. Gates open at

10 A.M. with practice at noon.

The late models will return to action a week earlier in the Turbo-Blue

Racing Gasolines Hub-City 150 National Open on Saturday and Sunday, October

23rd & 24th. Joining the late models will be the biggest races of the year

for the open-competition late model sportsman/semi-lates, pure stocks and

4-cyl pure stocks. The three divisions will have qualifying heats on Saturday

with feature events on Sunday. The late models will have time-trials,

qualifying heats on Saturday plus the W&W Mid-Atlantic Hoosier Tire Race of

Champions. On Sunday, the late models will go 150 laps for $10,000 plus

$3,750 in lap money. Gates open both days at 10 A.M. with action at 1 P.M.

The Hagerstown Speedway has a bye in the schedule next weekend, Sunday

Oct 17th and will not be in action.
