FRY COMES BACK FROM PREVIOUS WEEK’S CRASH

FOR SECOND SPORTSMAN WIN OF SEASON;

RICHARD TAKES KARS 358 SPRINT RACE

MECHANICSBURG, PA - JR Fry of Summerdale, who destroyed a race car during the previous week’s qualifying, returned to Silver Spring Speedway on Saturday night and recorded his second win of the season in the 25-lap Super Sportsman main event.

For Fry, at the wheel of the Country Gold No. 42, the victory marked the fourth of his career at the track.

Mark Richard of Landisburg, a former Mini Sprint winner at the track, powered to his first career KARS 358 Sprint win at Silver Spring in the division’s 25-lap main event. The win marked Richard’s sixth of the season with the KARS traveling group.

Silver Spring Speedway will present a three division show of Super Sportsman, Late Models and Street Stocks this Saturday, September 4 at 7 p.m. The Sportsman will be featured in a 30-lap championship event plus fireworks.

Outside front row starter Craig Morrow took the lead at the start of the Super Sportsman feature. On the second circuit, however, fourth-place starter Steve Cannon powered into the front spot.

Cannon began to stretch his lead in the early laps of the event as seventh-place starter Leroy Martin attempted to reel in the young leader.

The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap 11, when Smokey Snellbaker came to a stop in turn one in the No. 340. For the restart, Cannon was leading Martin and tenth-place John Stoner. Stoner, however, developed trouble on the lap 12 restart and pulled off of the race track.

Meanwhile, ninth-place starter JR Fry was advancing to the front of the field and on lap 18 made an outside pass by Cannon for the lead in turn three. In the final laps, 14th-place starter Carmen Perigo, who was named the Timber Wolf Racing Hard Charger, made a last-ditch effort to catch the leader.

Perigo’s efforts came up short when Fry took the checkered flag. Perigo, who took the point lead, finished second, while Martin, Russ Mitten and Cannon completed the top five.

Outside front row starter Billy Johns took the lead at the start of the KARS 358 Sprint feature. Johns was trailed by polesitter Brian Eichelberger for the first four laps before sixth-place starter Mark Richard advanced to second.

On a lap six restart, Richard made an inside pass in turn three by Johns for the lead and never looked back. At the halfway point, Richard stretched his lead to nearly a straightaway.

The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 20, which gave tenth-place starter Gary Gollub the opportunity to challenge Richard for the lead and win but to no avail.

Coming down for the checkered flag, Richard struck the frontstretch wall and lifted the front end of his race car off of the track but was able to guide it to the feature win. Gollub, Mike Lehman, Johns and Kevin Drury completed the top five.
