               RESULTS AUGUST 28, 1999

 
               TAZEWELL SPEEDWAY: AUGUST 28, 1999
               The racing doesn't get any better than it was tonight as
               you would have thought you were watching a series race.

               Starting on the front row were Fast Qual. Billy "The Kid"
               Ogle Jr. and Scott Sexton.

               Ten of the cars qualified in the 11's. The track was in
               great shape as Ogle turned an 11:40, the track record is
               11:35. At the drop of the green flag it was Ogle jumping
               in to the led, followed by John Thompson and Sexton side
               by side. With one lap in the books Sexton moved by
               Thompson on the back stretch. Sexton and Ogle side by
               side for the led, lap 6 Sexton moved by Ogle. No matter
               where you looked it was 2 and 3 wide racing. Lap 11 Rick
               Robertson spun on the back stretch. On the restart it was
               Sexton, Ogle, Thompson, Jack Trammell, Ricky Rogers. On a
               restart was the only time you seen any single file
               racing. Lap 11-12-13, it was Sexton and Ogle, Side by
               side for the led. Behind them it was Trammel and
               Thompson, followed by R. Rogers and Roger Best, followed
               by Bill Reed and Steve Smith all these driver were side
               by side. Lap 17, two wide between Bryan Hendrix and Tommy
               Kerr followed by Stacy "The Sheriff" Boles and Reed. Lap
               19 Harold Simpson spin coming off turn 3. Restart it was
               Sexton, Ogle, Thompson, Trammell, Best. Lap 20 Best took
               over the 3 place and Smith with his 3 wheeler moved in to
               the 5th place. Lap 24, Smith, Trammell, Boles 3 wide,
               with Trammell taking 5th. Lap 26 positions changed back
               of Sexton and Ogle, Best in 3rd with Thompson and
               Trammell. Lap 29, Simpson spun coming off turn 2, on the
               restart "The Sheriff" moved in to 4th place. Lap 31
               Trammell cleared Reed. Lap 33, door to door it was Sexton
               and Ogle for the led. Boles in 3rd. Lap 40 coming off
               turn 4 Smith got by Best for 4th. At the flag stand it
               was Sexton, Ogle Boles, Smith, and Best. Sexton taking
               the 40 lapper and the $1,400 for the win.

               Qual. Ogle 11:40, Sexton 11:52, Thompson 11:55, Trammell
               11:64, Rogers 11:69

               Over $600 in prizes were drawen for Warrior Jacket,
               Custom Race Engines Jacket, Bloomquit 1/24 scale car,
               T-Shirts and caps from Sexton, Ogle, Kerr, Vanover, Best,
               Trammell, Tazewell Speedway. I think it was 28 items
               given away by drawing the ticket stubs.

               THUNDER AND LIGHTING
               Again most of the night it was side by side racing. Never
               have I seen so much racing like that at any track, and
               very few cautions. Gambel jumped in to the led, with
               Houston and Long side by side for 4 laps. Lap 5, Bull got
               under Gamble for the led in turn 2. Behind they it was
               Self and Long lap 7-8-13 two wide. Lap 15, Lynn Wolfe
               spun in turn 3. With the field bunches up 2 and 3 wide
               and only one caution. At the checkered it was Gamble
               taking the win.

               Fast Qual. Marlin Bull 13:25

               MODIFIED STREET
               Fire in the night...but we will get to that at the end.
               First start Bray got the jump on Brooks, when Debusk and
               Shell reached turn 2 they got together, bring about a
               complete restart. Action every body was 2 and 3 wide,
               Bray and Brooks from the front row ran side to side.
               Followed by Welch and Saylor door to door and Morgan
               right there with them. Lap 2 Morgan took over the 3
               place, Lap 3 a caution with Brooks out front followed by
               Bray and Morgan. Lap 4 Morgan was on the move getting
               along side of Bray. When Vandergriff stopped on the front
               stretch. Lap 5 Smith took 3rd from Welch. Lap 9. T. Mayes
               roll his #71 on the back stretch. Race was red flagged to
               take care of T. Mayes car (it was Tater Mayes Birthday, I
               don't think he will forget this one). Lap 9, side by side
               Morgan and Brooks, Smith shot up to the turn one wall and
               Welch T-Bonded Smith. Lap 14 Morgan was under Brooks. Lap
               15-16-17-18, Bray and Welch 2 wide. White Flag Morgan and
               Brooks going for the win. At the checkered it was Morgan
               and Brooks, followed by Welch and Bray...Now the fire in
               the night, with Brooks leading the points for the years
               and Bray in 2nd. Bray stops at the flag stand, Pulls out
               $750 and wants Brooks tore all the way down and Morgan
               Intake and Clutch. Brooks didn't want tore down and lost
               1/2 his point for the year. Track Officials find an
               illegal carb. on Morgan. Giving the win to Welch and the
               track championship to Bray. With only one more point race
               no one can catch Bray in the points.

               PURE STREET
               A fast a caution free pure street race. Horton taking the
               led with Overholt, Hoover, Bain, Cupp, Collett making it
               look like one of thoes 3 and 4 wide salute to the fans
               you see at a big race. At the checkered it was Horton
               taking the win.

               Chapman. On lap 6 Chapman moved by Sauseman and went on
               to take the win.
