PEPSI SPECTATOR CHAMPIONSHIPS and LAKE COUNTY DODGE CADET CHAMPIONSHIPS WOW CROWDS AT STATELINE SPEEDWAY

Erie. Pa - The stars were out at Stateline Speedway as several local drivers staked their claim on championship status in the Pepsi Spectator Championships and the Lake County Dodge twin Cadet Championships.

Paul Briggs grabbed a big lead in the first feature race of the Pepsi Spectator Championships after the first lap. Briggs’ closest competitor, Walt Houser, started coming on fast in the 11th lap and got by Briggs for the win. Briggs finished second with Kirk Faust racing well for third. It was Rouser’s first feature win of the Season.

George Richardson capitalized on his start near the front of the pack in the second championship feature. Richardson wasn’t going to get a walk in the park as far as Derrick Dickerson was concerned. Dickerson applied pressure on Richardson the entire race with Bill Baker, Jr. in hot pursuit. However, nobody was going to catch Richardson as he brought home the win. Dickerson finished second with Baker trailing for third.

Dennis Beardsley was the man on the move in the third championship race- Beardsley not only won his feature, but a heat race earlier in the evening. His nearest competitor was Kelly Frederes in the 33k a half of a lap back. Frederes finished second with Skip Joslin taking third. Joslin raced with his hood up in the air for most of the race.

It was a three way race for the lead in the fourth championship contest between Bob Frisbee. Dave Hess. Jr. and Chris Sutton. Mess and Sutton were able to pull away from Frisbee in the eighth lap with Hess emerging as the victor. Sutton took second place with Frisbee hanging in for third.

The Lake County Dodge Cadet Championships got off to a fast start with Gary Eicher taking the lead until the beginning of the third lap when a few cars got together forcing Eicher into the wall. He had to towed off the track with Steve Yokum emerging as the new leader. John Galati and Glenn Slaney were looking for room to pass Yokum. And then it happened. Galati got by Yokum in the 12th lap to take the lead and the win. Bryan Emory moved in late to take second place. Yokum had to settle for third.

The second championship feature also got off to a quick start with Andy Sweetland assuming the lead. Sweetland would lead the race for nine laps before Chad Carlson moved up through traffic to move out front. A caution flag tighten things up in the tenth lap However, it didn’t stop Carlson from rebuilding his momentum. Carlson took the checkered flag. John Pencille finished in the second Spot with Jim Hilyer moving up to take third. It was Carlson’s seventh feature win of the season at Stateline.

Bryan Emory got by Mike Kosinski in turn two of lap one in the All Pro Run For The Money. Kosinski got the pole position start, but Emory was just too much for him and took the checkered flag. The weekly five-lap dash features the Cadet winners from the Previous week.

Matt Urban got the pole position start in the Super Late Model feature and made good use of it by checking out on the rest of the field. Urban earned the spot after coming up from seventh position to win his heat race. Rich Gardner tried giving Urban & run for his money, but couldn’t get the job done. David Scott moved in to take the second spot away. Urban claimed the checkered flag with Scott finishing second and Gardner ending up in third.

John Lacki pulled a gutsy move in the fifth lap of the Limited Late Model feature to get by early leader Hill Catania. Sr. It seemed once the door was opened, several cars followed suit. Joe Weber slipped into the second spot with Chris Hackett in third. Hackett got by Lacki to take away second place and started letting Lacki feel some pressure. Just before the finish. Hackett got under Lacki and spun him out just a few feet before the finish. Hackett also lost control. Pat McGuire lucked out for the win. Weber finished in second with John Losey staking his claim on third.

Budweiser Super sportsman action saw Don McGuire take advantage of his start on the pole. McGuire was off to the races building a large lead. The real race was for second place with Dan Nocero just getting by Matt Green for second place

It was time for the women to take to the track in the Ladies Powder Puff. In the first Spectator race it was Silvia Brown bringing home the checkered flag in the 46 car of Scott Ottaway. Jona Bronson won the second Spectator race in the number 12 car of Pat Gorton. Nancy Robinson in the 85 car of Dusty Franklin was the winner in the Cadet race for the ladies.
