LAKEVILLE L. M.'s DUNKED BY DUNCAN
By M.D. Swanger
Lakeville, Ohio Friday, August 27, 1999

Three drivers went flag to flag for feature wins at Lakeville Speedway on Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Trophy night. Charlie Duncan shot into the lead from the outside front row starting place and never looked back as the Wooster driver and his Courtesy Auto World, Reed's Painting, and CRM #17 had an easy run to his first win of the year. Behind him there was a lot of action as Aaron Middaugh, Jay McDougal, Ryan Markham and Johnny Moore along with the top 2 in points, Jim Cushing and Mark Uhler were slicing and dicing for second - fifth. After a lap 7 caution, Markham developed handling problems that took him out of the race and the on lap 19, Uhler and Cushing hooked together and each spun, collecting J.R. Gentry. All 3 went on the hook. Rick Bond finished with a strong run to take second from his 10th starting position as McDougal and Middaugh had their best finishes of the season as Johnny Moore wrapped up the top five. McDougal and Cushing marked up the heat wins. With his 11th place finish and Duncan's win, Cushing's point lead is just 20 with three points races left.
The best race of the night came in the Hall's Auto Sales Street Stock 'A' class as Troy Anderson and Rob Metz started on the front row but a first lap skirmish sent both to the tail as Donna Gentry set the pace for the first two laps before Joe Ryan Jr. took control. But Metz of Mansfield was working his way back up through the pack and as the checkered flag was waving, he pulled along side Ryan and the Bucket Seat Repair and Steve Cobb's Weidner Motors #92 outdragged Ryan out of turn four down to the line for his second win. Points leader Kelly Kaufamn took third as Roger Drouhard and Andy Coblentz filled out the top five. Heat winners were Jerry Adkins and Anderson. In the 'B' class, Ashland's Scott Clantz notched his sixth win of the year as the Willard Machining, Club 42, Hall's Auto Sales #07c led all the way as Terrence Metz gave Clantz early problems but faded to fifth as Tom Keller took advantage of a Paul Brown slip to claim the runner-up spot as Jack Swartz squeezed into fourth. Clantz and Brown topped the heats.
Rex Trussell led the pack for the opening 3 laps of the Rick Moore Motors Cruiser main but Creston's Chet Fry powered by and then cruised to victory for the third time in 1999 in the Pitt Stop Custom Exhaust #14. Trussell held on to second as Todd Sherwin swiped third away from Bob Fry as Ed Brenneman recorded a fifth place finish. Mark Hedrick, Mike Mast, and Chet Fry paced the heat races.
Big Prairie's Mark Adkins led all the way to pocket his fourth win in the 4-Cylinder Cruisers as Jimmy Cushing Jr. was the bridesmaid for the second week in a row. Jamey Rose, Todd Kanzig, and Ryan Nickles filled out the top five as Cushing Jr., Rose, and Randy Harmon netted heat wins.
On Friday, September 3rd , the Late Models will chase after a $2,000 winners share of the purse as the Cruisers will run another Ironman 100 along with a regular show for both Street Stock classes and the 4-Cylinders.
