SHADY TAKES WIN IN PHOTO FINISH AT HVS

                                           August 28, 1999

CLEARFIELD, PA- Seven different drivers went home with victories on Rankin’s Pilot Car Night Saturday at Hidden Valley Speedway. Jake Shady of Beech Creek won his 5th Budweiser Late Model Feature, while Smithmill’s Mike Stine picked up his 6th Sid’s Sub’s Small Block Modified Feature. Emory Rinehart, Jr. of Morrisdale won his 8th Wesigarber Auto Sales Street Stock main, while Frank Little r Woodland won his 5th NAPA Pure Stock Feature.

New Winners included: Shawn "Sheets" McGarvey of Coalport in the super stock special, Chris Luzier of Clearfield in the Keystone Computer Four Cylinders, and Gary Little of Woodland in the make-up NAPA Pure Stock main event.

John Stine and Dave Matthews led the late models down for the start, with Stine taking the lead and setting the pace. Stine held off Matthews first, then Jake Shady, who worked his way to second from fifth. While Shady was trying every trick he knew, the crowed was watching Luke Hoffner work his way through the field from his 22nd starting spot.

The main event went non-stop the first 14 laps, then a rash of cautions slowed things down. Stine continued to lead, and re-started the feature with two laps to go as the leader. Shady tried the low side several more times, and exiting turn four pulled along side Stine, and edged him out by only inches, if that, to get the win. The top five were: Shady, Stine, Glenn Ray (from 13th), Hoffner (from 22nd), and Duane Stiner (from 11th). Heat race wins went to Jake Shady, Tom Decker, Jr., and Glenn Ray.

Bobby Roos and Mike Stine led the small block modifieds to the wire for the start, with Stine leading the first lap. When the field exited turn four on lap two, Roos was setting the pace. He led until lap nine, when the got out of the groove in turn two, and Stine took advantage of the miscue for the lead. George Sankey had worked under Roos as well, and was putting the pressure on Stine, but Stine was able to hold on for his 6th win of the year. Sankey was second, Roos was third, Spencer Husted was fourth, and John Ritter was fifth. Heat wins went to Bobby Roos and Mike Stine.

Mike Shoemaker and Denny Wesigarber led the super stocks down for the start, with Shoemaker taking the lead. He set the pace until lap three, when Shawn McGarvey worked his way to the front from 5th. Once out front, McGarvey kept Shoemaker behind him, and went on to get the win. Shoemaker was second, George Sankey was third, Weisgarber was fourth, and Shawn Owens was fifth. Ed Conner and Shawn McGarvey won the heats.

Todd Mathews beat Doug Tibbens to the first turn, and was able to lead the first lap of the street stock feature, then Emroy Rinehart, Jr. worked by on the outside, and took the lead. Once out front, Rinehart had to hold off Trent Ogden, and then Jerry Timchak to get the win. The top five were: Rinehart, Timchak, Ogden, Tibbens, and Sam Swauger. Heat wins went to Craig Lobb and Emory Rinehart, Jr.

Chris Luzier and Chris Peterson led the four cylinders to the start for their 15 lap main, with Luzier taking the lead. Once out front, he had to worry about First Peterson, then Levi Ardery, and eventually Vern Nixon, but no one had what it took to get by Luzier, who went on to claim his first career checkered flag. The top five were Chris Luzier, Nixon, Cecilia Olson, Greg Luzier, and Joel Porter. Heat wins went to Levi Ardery, Don Henry, and Chris Farrell.

Kevin Clark led the first eight laps of the pure stock feature, before Frank Little took the lead. Once out front, Little had to ward off Clark, who battled back, but Little took the win. The top five were: Little, Clark, Warren Casher, Shawn Lamoreau, and Calvin Wallace. Dan London and Frank Barrett, Jr. split the heats.

Dan London led the first five circuits of the make-up pure stock feature, before Gary Little took the lead. He held off Warren Casher to get his first career win at the Valley. Casher, Jason Bainey, Frank Little, and Calvin Wallace completed the top five.
