Lakeville

9 DRIVERS NAB LAKEVILLE CHECKERFLAGS

By M.D. Swanger
Lakeville Oh. Friday, August 20,1999

Cramming 3 weeks of racing into one night was a big chore for the management of Lakeville Speedway as make-up features from two weeks ago from when the light pole was knocked down plus one feature from last week that was rained out plus all the regular mains for the night. No heat races were run as the regular features started by the top 10 in points drawing pills for their starting positions and last chance races for the remaining spots for the rest of the field. In the American Payroll Advance Late Model make-up feature, Ryan Markham of Ashland wasted no time in taking over the lead as he started fourth and passed Charlie Duncan on the second lap and then pulled away for his 4th win of the year in the T.C. Machine, Gas House, & Gulf Insulation #5m. Mark Uhler came on strong in the last 10 laps to take second ahead of Duncan, Matt Aber, and Rick Moore.
In the regular feature, Blaine Aber set the pace for the first 7 laps before Mark Uhler came roaring back to motor past and take the Creston-based Ray's Garage, Creston Automotive, and Winar Connections #u2 into the Budweiser victory lane for the second time this season. Duncan took the runner up position as J.R. Gentry blasted into third as Markham settled for 4th and Matt Aber filled out the top five. Jay McDougal topped the last chance race.
It's been a struggle since his opening night win, but Creston's Jason Flory had it together for a flag to flag win in the make up feature of the Hall's Auto Sales Street Stock 'A' main. The McIlvaine Trucking, Ray's Garage, and Creston's Women of the Moose #02 was chased across the line by Darren Blackford, Andy Coblentz, Kelly Kaufman, and Pike Olsen. The regular main saw Olsen doing the same thing as the Mansfield driver and his A-1 Glass, Buffalo Wings & Rings, and Olsen Construction #4 led all the way to post his 3rd win. It was a hotly contested run for the top five spots as Coblentz, Kaufman, Ty Myers, and Roger Drouhard went bumper to bumper to finish in that order. Scott Clantz of Ashland chalked up his 5th win of the year in the 'B' division make up feature. The Club 42, Pic-a-Deli #07c had Terrence Metz, Charlie Van Sickle, Toby Bago, and Tom Keller in pursuit. Van Sickle expanded his points lead in the regular feature as the Lakeville driver and his C&T Towing, Sue's Custom Hats, and Mac Tools #262  netted his second win. Clantz claimed second ahead of Jack Swartz, Shawn Scott, and Randy Litzenburg.
Shreve's Dustin Shank topped points leader Gary Hensel Sr. in the make up main of the Rick Moore Motors Cruisers for his second win. Rex Trussell was third ahead of Russ and Jeff Norris. Dan Hensel topped the consi.  Hensel Sr. held off the Fry family in the scheduled feature as Bob, Chet, and Craig feuded  out the middle of the top five as Jeff Norris ran fifth. The Consi was won by Mike Sherwin.
Bill Miller mastered the 4 - Cylinder Cruisers main but the #93 was claimed and now he will be looking for a new car for next week. He had a battle with Jimmy Cushing Jr. before taking his first win. Jerry Adkins, Charles Henney, and Paul McVicker rounded out the top five. Carrie Winger claimed the win in the consi.
Lakeville Speedway will have the same classes back for heat races, last chance races, and features as a regular show is on the card for Friday night.
