Rain wins second at Raceway 7

Rich Berry

Conneaut, Ohio, (August 13) For the second time this season, rain wiped out the Friday night racing program at Raceway 7.  For the second time, an appearance by the York Triathlon Series for E-Mods was also washed out.  The racing season is down to just a few dates left in the 1999 racing season. Two point races are left to decide the Maloney Tool and Mold Late Model point championship, with Ron Davies of Warren, PA holding the top spot in the standings.  Davies holds a comfortable edge over 1997 champ Rob Blair, and Matt Urban.

Three point races are left to be run in the other classes.  Dan McDonald of Girard, PA holds a slight lead in a close The Bolt Place Limited Late Model point race, with Mike Stoneman, Bob Vogt, and Tom Bonanno still in striking distance.  Jay Watson of Conneaut, OH leads the Corry Laser E-Mod standings with Ron Roncaglione and Bill Watson in position to catch him.  Bill Hanna leads the Fame Manufacturing Street Stock standings, with Leon Phillips and Tony Hyde trying to catch up.  The largest point edge belongs to Jim Hyde of Springboro, PA in the Steve's Auto Body Four Cylinders.  Hyde's edge over Darrell Moody, Turk Kahler, and Dennis Lenney may allow him the chance to be the first driver to wrap up a point title.

Just three racing programs are left in the 1999 season at Raceway 7.  Bicycle racing for the kids will take place on August 20, where kids will be admitted free.  The Late Model winner will qualify for the Hub City Race of Champions in October at Maryland's Hagerstown Speedway, and the Limited Late Models will race for $1000 extra purse money sponsored by Roberts Trucking.

The final MACS visit of the season will be on August 27 in a big show sponsored by Bossard-Crawford GM.  The Super 7 Shootout will be held for the top money earners from the four MACS races at Raceway 7.

The Grand Finale program will end the 1999 racing season on September 3, with Fireworks and a Demo Derby bringing down the curtain on the final racing program of the 1900's.

The Raceway 7 banquet will be held on November 13 at St. Johns Social hall in Girard, PA.  Open to everybody, ticket information will soon be available.

All five divisions will be in competition each night.  Raceway 7 is located six miles south of I-90 on Ohio Route 7.  For more information, call the track phone on race day at 440-594-2222, or visit the Raceway 7 web site at www.raceway7.com.
