 MCKEAN COUNTY RACEWAY

  ROD BIEHLER

SMETHPORT, PA. — This past Saturday night McKean County Raceway was silent as the track was shut down due to the annual county fair being staged on the grounds. Action will resume this Thursday night with a special Super Stock and Street Stock Special starting at 7pm.

As a result the MCR Late Models ran the 9th Annual Amsoil Late Model Reunion at Woodhull Raceway, Woodhull, New York. promoted by R & R  Motorsports Promotions.

In spite of simply miserable weather conditions (drizzle) at the high banked 1/3 mile Steuben County track the show was run in its entirety before nearly a full grandstand.

Kenny Trevitz of Winfield, Pa. and Bob "The Bird" Baldwin of Wellsville, My. won their heats with John Haggerty and Jeff Hoffman finishing second respectively in those heats. Ike Fanton and Tim Hoffman, who placed third in their heats completed the 6 car field far the WZKZ Radio Dash for Cash. A re—draw for positions put Jeff and Tim Hoffman on the front row of the 4 lap event and they finished in that order followed by Trevitz, Baldwin, Fanton and Haggerty.

In a special 358 Modified/Late Model match race, which was a real crowd pleaser~ Ed Carley of Freedom, Ny in his Carley Motorsports Late Model edged Todd McManus 01 Coudersport, Pa in his Modified to win the $250 prize.

In the 25 lap main event Jeff Hoffman quickly grabbed the initial lead with Bob Baldwin able to get by Tim Hoffman and Kenny Trevitz and settle into second. They ran that way for 14 laps till Baldwin made his move to the point. Before the next lap was completed Jeff Hoffman had regained the lead only to lose it the following lap. This continued on for three more laps with the two hot shoes dicing back and forth before contact between the two occurred in turn one sending both spinning and to the back of the pack and out of contention.

On the re—start Tim Hoffman found himself pacing the field with Trevitz, Ed Carley and Mike Wonderling making it a four car shootout to the checkers Just 4 laps away. Hoffman held off their charge to win his first ever R & R Reunion Feature. Trevitz crossed the line a close second with Carley, Wondering and Jim Mazur completing the top five. Wonderling was the hard charger as he came from the back of the pack after spinning out early in the race to finish fourth, the remainder of the top ten spots were filled by Brent Rhebergen, Dusty Unverdorben, Al Brewer, Dan Dunham and Dave Matthews.

The regular racing action will resume at MCR on Saturday, August, 28 with the season championship night for all four classes. McKean County Raceway is located at the Junction of Routes 6 & 46 in Smethport, Pa.
