Fairbury American Legion Speedway

Hillard takes another Win at Fairbury American Legion Speedway!

For Immediate Release

August 14, 1999

(Fairbury IL) When you are on a roll, sometimes things just stay that way. Apparently, Sadorus IL driver Steve Hillard is definitely in that mode. Setting Fast Time, winning a dramatic trophy dash, and second in his heat race, just set the stage for his dominating run in the feature.

Hillard, who took the pole position, due to his last lap pass of Gary May in the trophy dash, jumped to the lead from the green flag. Roger Long briefly challenged Hillard, but Hillard defended all charges against his white and blue #47. With Hillard running across the bottom of the corners, other drivers were trying the high groove in an effort to pass the hottest driver in the state of Illinois, but to no avail. After Roger Long, made contact with the wall, it left Gary May in second place, and Joe Harlan in third. Rounding out the top ten were, Mark Anderson, Ron Donaldsen, Bob Thoennes, Jay Fiene, Eric Kwasigroh, Kevin Paul, and Mike Glasscock. Hillard who survived many caution flags in the thirty lap race, was pretty much in awe of what he has accoplished lately" I’m just not sure what to say....The first part of the year we really struggled...Then suddenly we have won all over the place. Hopefully this will keep going. We have been waiting on our new car, but the way this one has been running, I don’t think we are going to be in any hurry for it anymore!" said Hillard. Hillard’s car is sponsored by, Budda Enterprises, Tatmans Autobody, Dead-Horse Lounge, and features a Mastersbilt Chassis, and Hixson Engine.

In Qualifying Steve Hillard set fast time of the 27 late-models present with a time of 13.275 seconds around the 1/3 mile oval. Hillard took the trophy dash of Roger Long, Mark Anderson, Gary May, and Mike Mullvain.

The Heat Races were captured by Flip Schickel, Reese O’Connor, and Joe Harlan. The semi Featre saw Garrett Slager take the victory ahead of Kevin Paul, Lonnie Franklin Jr., and Dave Lilja

In other divisions, Dale Leuth held off Lance Dehm in the UMP Modified division, while Gary Turpin won his fourth feature out of the last five events, in the Street Stock Feature.

The next event for the Fairbury American Legion Speedway will be August 20, as part of the Fairbury Fair. Friday night will be a complete show paying $1,200 to win for the UMP Late Models. Additionally the track will host the regular Saturday Night show on August 21 as well, paying $1,500 to win for the Late-models.
