UHLER RETURNS TO LAKEVILLE VICTORY CIRCLE

By M.D. Swanger
Lakeville Ohio, Friday, July16, 1999

After a week off because of the rain, over 120 cars jammed into the Lakeville Speedway pits and they put on another great show for the pumped up fans in the full grandstands on Albright Welding Supply night.  J.R. Gentry set the pace for the first 10 circuits of the American Payroll Advance late model main with Mark Uhler of Creston right with him. Matt Aber and Ryan Markham were in a dogfight for third with Jim Cushing waiting for an opening to get by both of them. Going into turn 3 on lap nine, Aber went low on Uhler as Markham went to the high side with a lot of contact between the threesome as Aber slid up into Uhler and forced him into Markham causing alot of damage on the 5m of Markham and ending his night as Uhler got his place back and Aber went to the tail. Two laps later Uhler and his Ray's Garage, Creston Automotive, & Winar Connections #u2 powered past Gentry and went on to win the 25 lap feature by more than a half a straightaway, his first in over 2 years at Lakeville. Charlie Duncan was the hard charger of the night as he finished 2nd from his tenth starting spot. Cushing, Gentry, and Blaine Aber filled out the top five. Uhler and the Aber's won the heats as Rick Bond topped the last chance race.
Darren Blackford jumped into the lead of the Hall's Auto Sales Street Stock 'A' feature but Mansfield's Wayne Maffett Jr. worked his way through the field and took command of the race on lap 6 to make his first visit of the year a winning one. The Hall's Racing Central #240 was followed across the line by Blackford, Mike Lonas, Rob Metz and now points leader Kelly Kaufman. Maffett Jr., Lonas, Ty Myers, and Jason Flory posted the heat wins. Tom Keller held off Ashland's Scott Clantz for 3 laps in the 'B' feature as the Club 42 and Pic-a-Deli #07c rolled into the Budweiser victory circle for the third time this season. Points leader in the 'B' division, Charlie Van Sickle ran second as Jack Swartz, Darren Dawson and Toby Bago followed.
The 4 cylinder cruisers ran their first feature ever and Mark Adkins of Millersburg will go down in the record books as the first feature winner in the #101. First heat winner Randy Harmon was the runner up in the main with Bill Lemon, Marvin French and Carrie Wenger in pursuit. James Arms also picked off a heat win.
The Rick Moore Motors Cruisers ran their second Iron man 100 of the season as Creston's Chet Fry lapped the 44 car field to take home the $500 first place money. Dan Hensel and Gary Hensel Sr. finished a lap down while Mark Hedrick and Todd Sherwin filled in the top 5.
Next Friday night will be the second jewel of the Triple Crown for the Late Models as the winner of the 50 lap feature will pocket $5,000.
